Packers Lose 23-19 to Steelers

The Packers had two cracks in the red zone in the final minutes, but the Pittsburgh defense got interceptions both times as the Steelers hung on for a 23-19 victory on Sunday at Acrisure Stadium.

With the loss, the Packers fell to 3-6. The Steelers improved to 6-3.

Green Bay trailed 17-7 in the first half and climbed back, eventually taking a 19-17 lead in the third quarter. Two Pittsburgh field goals put the Steelers back in front, and the Packers couldn't answer.

A blocked extra point on the Packers' second touchdown, in the second quarter, loomed large the rest of the way as Green Bay couldn't settle for a field goal on their final possessions. QB Jordan Love took two shots at the end zone and was picked off both times, the last one coming on the final play of the game from the Pittsburgh 16-yard line.

Alexander was wearing the green dot (indicating the player who communicates with the sideline) after taking the job over from fellow inside linebacker Cole Holcomb, who suffered a season-ending knee injury against the Tennessee Titans a week earlier.

Alexander signed with the Steelers during training camp and has been a mainstay in the revamped linebacker corps. In Pittsburgh's 20-16 win over the Titans, Alexander had the game-sealing interception against rookie quarterback Will Levis in the end zone. On the season, Alexander has 41 combined tackles and five tackles for loss, along with one forced fumble and the interception.

The Steelers did most of their offensive damage on the ground and with Chris Boswell field goals. Both Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren found the endzone in this game with each back handling double-digit carries. Harris carried the ball 16 times for 82 yards while Warren took 15 carries for 101 rushing yards as they both had efficient days on the ground. Kenny Pickett completed just 14 of 23 pass attempts for 126 yards through the air as the Steelers' running backs were the stars of this one to lead their offense to victory.

T.J. Watt landed his 88th career sack in this game, passing his brother J.J. Watt for the second-most sacks in a player’s first 100 games. Watt now has 10.5 sacks on the season. Watt also led the Steelers defense with eight total tackles on the day. An interception by Keanu Neal in the endzone with under four minutes to go while on the final play of the game, it was Damontae Kazee who came up with an interception to seal the win. Both Kazee and Neal saw an increase in playing time with Minkah Fitzpatrick missing his second-straight game.
