49ers beat Jaguars (34-3)

They started slowly and never got faster.Against this opponent, that was trouble.

Trevor Lawrence was sacked five times, lost a fumble and threw two interceptions. The defense allowed touchdowns to start both halves. All in all, little went right and a lot went wrong for the Jaguars in a 34-3 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in front of 69,271 at EverBank Stadium Sunday afternoon.

The win snaps a three-game losing streak the 49ers took into their midseason bye that sparked questions about their championship viability. On Sunday, they looked very much like the Super Bowl contender that started 5-0 while smothering one of the league’s hottest teams.

From an overwhelming pass rush to a bounce-back game from quarterback Brock Purdy, the 49ers controlled every aspect of Sunday's game against a 6-2 Jaguars team that entered riding a five-game win streak.

Deebo Samuel returned from a three-game absence and added a 23-yard scoring run for the 49ers (6-3), who stopped Jacksonville’s five-game winning streak and reestablished themselves as a favorite in the NFC.

San Francisco dominated both lines of scrimmage and controlled the game from the opening drive. The Niners ran for 144 yards against one of the league’s top run defenses and sacked Trevor Lawrence five times. Nick Bosa was a menace all afternoon, and newly acquired defensive end Chase Young got in on one of the sacks.

“Having him is such a big threat,” Bosa said. “I think we played off of each other well.”

The Jaguars (6-3), meanwhile, embarrassed themselves at every turn and looked nothing like a legit playoff contender. They had a five-possession stretch in which they fumbled, kicked a field goal, threw an interception, fumbled and threw another interception. Lawrence was responsible for three of the team’s four turnovers.

The Jaguars did not force a turnover after entering the game leading the NFL in the category with 18. They are 0-2 this season when not forcing a turnover, and Oluokun registered the team's two sacks.

"That's not the type of football team that we want to be right there, so let's start fighting," Oluokun said. "Let's start working to be better. We have a good opponent coming in next week (the Tennessee Titans of the AFC South). I'm ready to work."
