Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers revealed return timeline

For the first time since tearing an Achilles tendon, New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers revealed a vague timeline for when he hopes to return, hinting Tuesday that he could be back on the field in six weeks.

"It'll be a few fortnights," Rodgers said during his weekly spot on "The Pat McAfee Show."

Rodgers, eight weeks removed from surgery, sparked speculation about his return Monday night after the Jets' 27-6 home loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. During the postgame handshakes, he told Chargers safety Derwin James that he intends to play in "a few weeks." His comment was caught on camera, and the video went viral.

The injury happened eight weeks and one day ago. The possibility that he’s only a few weeks away from returning is amazing.

Even if, as some believe, Rodgers didn’t suffer a full tear but only a partial tear of his Achilles tendon, it’s still a remarkable recovery.

Rodgers' latest comments come just one day after a viral video showed him telling James "give me a few weeks," an apparent reference to when he could make his NFL return. Rodgers remarks came after the Jets suffered a 27-6 loss to the Chargers at MetLife Stadium.

The 39-year-old quarterback attempted to downplay those comments by saying he was simply joking with the Chargers safety.

Monday night marked the fourth consecutive home game Rodgers attended and third he threw before the game. He played catch before the Green & White's Week 6 win over the Eagles, and again in Week 8 before the Jets' defeated the Giants. With each game of catch, he has gotten more comfortable.

As for Rodgers' recovery timeline, it usually takes four to six months for NFL players to get back to "full activity" after an Achilles tear.

Achilles injuries have been a major issue for NFL players this season. Baltimore Ravens running back J.K. Dobbins also suffered an Achilles tear in Week 1. The Minnesota Vikings, Rodgers' former NFC North rivals, got hit with Achilles injuries to key players in back-to-back weeks — quarterback Kirk Cousins in Week 8 and running back Cam Akers on Sunday.
