RECAP: Lions VS.Ravens

Every NFL team, even a good team, is usually good for one each season.

A poor matchup, a showdown that renders the game plan useless and gets so out of hand that it makes you rack your brain for what could have possibly happened.

The Detroit Lions' 38-6 loss to the Ravens in Baltimore was that game.

We've already seen this happen to good teams around the league this season. The Cowboys suffered an embarrassing loss at the hands of the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3 — the Cardinals' only win of the season so far. The Miami Dolphins got dominated 48-20 by a good Buffalo Bills team in Week 4. Heck, the Bills have suffered multiple head-scratching losses this year, starting with Week 1 against the mostly Rodgers-less Jets — and extending into Sunday, when they inexplicably lost to the New England Patriots.

Detroit had a rare opportunity to start the season 6-1 or better for the first time since 1956 but allowed the Ravens to score a touchdown on each of their first four drives to dig itself a 28-0 hole at halftime that the Lions never recovered from.

Jackson dominated the Lions, going 21-for-27 for 357 passing yards, the second most in a single game in his career. He also finished with three passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown.

"Lamar beat us. He hammered us with his arm. He threw the ball extremely well, he ran when he needed to, and we did not handle it well," Campbell said. "Our energy was good, which is crazy when you come out of a game like that and look at the score ... our energy was good, but our detail and discipline, which has been so good over the last four or five weeks was not good enough, so self-induced.

Baltimore needed only four plays to go 94 yards from there to close the door on any Detroit comeback hopes to push the lead to 35-0 on Jackson's third touchdown pass of the day and his second to tight end Mark Andrews.

The Lions finally got on the scoreboard early in the fourth quarter with rookie running back Jahmyr Gibbs' first touchdown of his career on a 21-yard run. Gibbs finished with 68 rushing yards for a 6.2-yard average per rush and a touchdown. He also caught nine passes for 58 yards to total 126 scrimmage yards.
