The Packers practically repeated their last loss in Las Vegas, playing poorly in the first half and then having a chance to win at the end of the game intercepted.
As a result, the Broncos hung on for a 19-17 win Sunday in Denver, dropping the Packers to 2-4 on the season. The Broncos are now 2-5.
Green Bay trailed 9-0 at the half, which included a missed field goal, but finally got the offense going in the second half, scoring three times, the last a deflected TD pass to WR Jayden Reed on fourth down to take a 17-16 lead. After the Broncos responded with a fourth-quarter drive for a field goal to retake the lead at 19-17, the Packers had one last chance.
Jones was a late scratch from Green Bay's Week 5 loss to the Raiders after being limited the previous week against the Lions. He gained 127 yards from scrimmage and scored two touchdowns in the Packers' Week 1 victory over the Bears but appeared in only one of the following four games.
Jones was one of 10 players listed as questionable on Green Bay's injury report. The Packers (2-3) had a bye in Week 6, but LaFleur quipped that it felt as if his team "played a game last week" when discussing the lengthy injury report.
The breaks Payton referenced included a pair of Love touchdown passes. On the first, cornerback Pat Surtain II appeared to have simultaneous possession of the ball in the end zone, but the Packers were awarded a score. On the Packers' ensuing drive, a fourth-down pass into the end zone bounced off Romeo Doubs' hands and into the hands of Jayden Reed.
Then the Packers mounted a second-half rally. They drove 64 yards to get on the board with a field goal to open the second half. They then took the lead with touchdowns on back-to-back drives.
Love's first scoring pass saw wide receiver Romeo Doubs fight with cornerback Pat Surtain II in the end zone to secure the score. Both players came down to the ground with two hands on the ball. Since the tie goes to the offense, the Packers secured the touchdown instead of turning the ball over.
Russell Wilson wasn’t great for the Broncos, but he threw for 194 yards, ran for 21 and didn’t have a turnover. That was good enough.
The loss drops the Packers to 2-4 and the win improves the Broncos to 2-5. Neither of these teams is particularly good, but the Broncos eked out the close win today.
