A couple of weeks ago I was replacing sections on my front deck. As I was removing a section of it, there was what looked like a small round roll of bird “doo doo” with mold growing on it. Not wanting to touch that mess, I reached for my slotted screwdriver to scrape it off. Oh my, the glob moved, I jumped back and thought what is this? I then used my carpenter’s pencil, touched the creature, and it crawled onto the pencil. Upon further study, I realized this was not a creature; it was the adult of the Carolina Sphinx, (Manduca sexta), also known as the Tobacco Hornworm.
