Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner 4 years Marriage ends

Joe Jonas has retained a divorce lawyer after four years of marriage to Sophie Turner, a source tells PEOPLE. 

Jonas, 34, and Turner, 27, walked down the aisle twice — once in Las Vegas and then again in France — and are the parents to two children together.

Representatives for Jonas did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment. A rep for Turner, meanwhile, declined to comment.

TMZ was the first to report the news.

The pair first met when Jonas slid into Turner’s Instagram DMs in 2016. They got engaged the following year, and are now parents to a 3-year-old daughter and a 1-year-old daughter. According to TMZ, the couple have been having marital problems for at least half a year. For the past three months, Jonas has reportedly been caring for their two young children “pretty much all of the time,” even while touring with his brothers. Turner attended the JoBros tour in New York just last month, notably sporting a “Mr. Perfectly Fine” friendship bracelet. The song is widely rumored to be about Taylor Swift’s breakup with Jonas. If a divorce happens, perhaps the track will hit a little different for Turner.

Jonas and Turner first stepped out as a couple in 2016. Rumors of their relationship emerged when they were spotted together at a pre-MTV Europe Music Awards Kings of Leon concert at the Oude Luxor Theater in Rotterdam, Netherlands, in 2016, according to PEOPLE. The duo dated for about a year before they officially announced their engagement with corresponding Instagram posts in the fall of 2017, each sharing an image of Turner's dazzling pear-shaped engagement ring.

"I said yes," the Game of Thrones star captioned the photo, while the Jonas Brothers singer wrote, "She said yes."

At their wedding, Sophie looked ethereal in a custom Louis Vuitton dress, featuring a plunging neckline and long sleeves. Meanwhile, the bride and groom and their guests later enjoyed a lavish pool party, with waiters serving drinks alfresco.

That same month, Turner also revealed she was pregnant with her second child, telling Elle magazine, "We’re so excited to be expanding the family. It’s the best blessing ever."

The following month, Jonas told People that he felt "a little less nervous" about welcoming a new addition.

"You really don’t know what to expect … but I’m just excited," he said, noting that children were "such an amazing part of life."
