Seth Rollins went into WWE Payback looking for vengeance for all the things Shinsuke Nakamura said he would do to him on Saturday night. Nakamura said he would leave him "different," and while Nakamura couldn't leave PPG Paints Arena with the world heavyweight title, he definitely left Rollins' back in a much different state afterward.
Rollins took powerbombs, knees and various submission attempts to his spine throughout the match. Somehow, Rollins kept finding a way to power through and return fire. After landing a Pedigree and a Curbstomp onto his opponent, Rollins retained his title.
Meanwhile, The Judgment Day came in with two titles in their stable and eyed a third, the WWE tag team title held by Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. To get the belts off the champs, it would take a group effort as Finn Balor and Damian Priest took on the duo initially -- but Rhea Ripley, Dominik Mysterio and even JD McDonagh all came in to push the odds in their favor to bring the belts into their faction. Yes, Balor and Priest are your new tag champions.
There are four title bouts scheduled for Saturday night, headlined by Seth Rollins defending the world heavyweight championship against Shinsuke Nakamura. There is one other match on the card carrying a stipulation as Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn are set to defend the undisputed WWE tag team championship against Judgment Day's Finn Balor and Damian Priest in a Steel City Street Fight.
Plus, one of the big featured matches pits Becky Lynch against Trish Stratus inside of a steel cage. After months of Stratus taking shortcuts to get the better of Lynch, "The Man" will finally be in an environment with no easy escapes for her WWE Hall of Fame opponent. Although, you can expect Stratus' protege Zoey Stark to play a role in the match in one way or another.
It was the ultimate endorsement of Knight by the 16-time world champion, but there should be more to come between them.
While a one-on-one affair seems to be the most obvious direction to go in, having them team up would work just as well. Knight is already being fast-tracked to the top of the card, and having Cena be a small part of his ascent could do wonders for his career.
As for their opponents, Austin Theory and Grayson Waller recently joined forces on SmackDown and would be the perfect foils for the two fan favorites.
That program can play out over the next month and result in a massive momentum-building win for Knight at Fastlane on October 7.
