UFC 292: Ian Machado Garry beat Neil Magny

The 25-year-old welterweight dominated all three rounds to improve his professional record to 13-0. Garry had told  before the fight he would "annihilate" Magny, a man he called the "gatekeeper" of the division with the 36-year-old having recorded the most victories in welterweight history.

He was last in action against Daniel Rodriguez in May, as he beat the American by first-round knockout.

He  was initially due to fight Geoff Neal on Saturday but he was forced to pull out through injury, leaving Garry with the fight he was really looking for in the first place.

The 25-year-old continued his relentless leg attacks in the second stanza and Magny, who was visibly hurt by the kicks, tried to earn some respite by initiating a wrestling exchange.

However, it wasn’t long before they returned to the striking range and Garry went back to work with the kicks that had referee Keith Peterson seriously considering waving off the bout.

It was more of the same in round three as Garry hunted for a finish, but 'The Haitian Sensation' bravely survived to see the final bell.

A few jabs were there for Magny early in the second stanza. Garry had Magny hobbling off a stinging kick to the leg. He had great difficulty with the distance. Magny attempted a takedown. Garry was battering Magny's lead leg.

Round three was more of the same with Garry continuing to pepper Magny's leg and body with kicks. A front kick had Magny covering up, and Garry took him down to the mat. The bout went the distance, and Garry won a clear unanimous decision.

The Irishman bossed the bout from the off as he quickly attacked Magny's leg and won 30-26, 30-26, 30-24 on the scorecards before saying he wants to face Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson next up.

Garry was originally scheduled to face Geoff Neal, but he withdrew from the bout for undisclosed reasons and Neal's fellow American Magny stepped up at short notice.

"Everybody has Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson on that list, so give me Thompson whenever, wherever for five rounds. I'll prove to you I'm the new generation of strikers in the world."
