Goals from Quaison and Moussa Dembele secured victory for Al-Ettifaq, who boasted Jordan Henderson in their ranks, whilst Steven Gerrard was in the dugout.
As Champions League winners accustomed to playing among the very elite, Al Ettifaq's most high-profile acquisitions would have made their exacting standards clear in the dressing room at halftime. Gerrard squabbled with counterpart Luis Castro before heading down the tunnel.
