The 38-year-old singer-songwriter was spotted Thursday (July 20) pouring coffee and chatting with customers at a Waffle House location in Florence, Ala., in full employee uniform complete with a “Lana” name tag. During break times, she was able to snap a few photos with fans, blue vape pen in hand.
Neither Lana nor folks on the scene have provided any explanation as to why she was working there. (Billboard has reached out to her reps for comment.) The “Doin’ Time” singer is, however, notorious for including homages to Americana aesthetics and traditions in her music — she even name-checked the city of Florence in her Ocean Blvd. track “Paris, Texas.”
The “Summertime Sadness” singer has apparently been moonlighting as a waitress at a Waffle House in Florence, Alabama, according to social media posts from a few of her customers shared on a fan account. Pictures posted Thursday show Del Rey in uniform, warmly serving patrons and working behind the counter.
In one video, she can be heard saying, “Oh look at this guy. Oh God, Charlie don’t film him without his permission.”
On Wednesday Del Ray took a visit to Stanfield’s River Bottom Grille where once again fans in Florence were thrilled to run into the singer. Longtime fan, Hannah Cain says meeting Del Rey only made her love the singer more.
“She was so caring of everyone’s feelings in that moment and didn’t get annoyed or frustrated with us coming up to her, she was so patient and sweet,” Cain said.
The U.K. appearance came a month after Del Rey released her new album, titled Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd. Friend and fan Taylor Swift called the new music "extraordinary" when she gave Del Rey a shout-out during a Las Vegas Eras Tour stop in March.
"I do want to talk about something, because Lana Del Rey put out a new album," Swift, 33, said at the time. "And, guys, it's so good. You probably already know that. But it's just extraordinary."
This isn’t the first time the Grammy nominee has been spotted in Alabama this week. Pictures and videos have been cropping up online for the past few days of her going about her business in the southern state, getting her nails done in a salon in Birmingham and signing autographs outside of an America’s Thrift Store in Florence.
