It's race day at Nashville Superspeedway for the NASCAR Cup Series' third annual Ally 400. This will be a Nashville night race – the first scheduled Cup race under the lights at the superspeedway. NASCAR Cup Series action is back after the lone in-season off weekend of 2023, with the Ally 400 scheduled to take place at Nashville Superspeedway this Sunday evening.
This 300-lap race around the four-turn, 1.33-mile (2.140-kilometer) Lebanon, Tennessee oval had been scheduled to get underway at 7:22 p.m. ET, with
Denny Hamlin won Stage 2 at the Ally 400 on Sunday, holding off Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Martin Truex Jr. Ross Chastain, William Byron and Christopher Bell round out the top five. Bell makes three Joe Gibbs Racing cars in the top five.
Ross Chastain drove Trackhouse Racing to a win on its home track, holding off Martin Truex Jr. for the victory in the Ally 400 at Nashville Superspeedway.
The win is the first for Chastain in 2023 after getting two wins a year ago. Trackhouse Racing, which is owned by Justin Marks and Pitbull, is located in Nashville.
Chastain picked up his first NASCAR Cup Series pole on Saturday for the Ally 400. He was dominant throughout the race, staying in the top five through much of the race.
William Byron leader out of pits after Stage 1
There is a new race leader in the Ally 400. William Byron took the lead after the first stage when he beat the field out of the pits. Ross Chastain remains second. Noah Gragson will start third and Tyler Reddick is fourth.
End of Stage 1: Tyler Reddick leader after 90 laps
Tyler Reddick picked up his third NASCAR Cup Series stage win of the 2023 season on Sunday. Reddick won Stage 1 of the Ally 400 at Nashville Superspeedway. Reddick passed polesitter Ross Chastain on lap 60 and led the remaining 30 laps.
Chastain finished second, William Byron was third, Martin Truex Jr. and Denny Hamlin round out the top five.
Kyle Busch, who had to pit on lap 16 due to a tire issue, finished seventh and is back on the lead lap.
The most bizarre moment of the race came after Chastain won. Chase Briscoe ran into Chastain’s Trackhouse teammate Daniel Suarez as Suarez seemingly swerved right up the track to congratulate Chastain for his win.
“Just that close again,” said Truex, who notched his sixth top-five finish and extended his points lead. “We keep doing that we’ll be OK.”
Truex finished ahead of Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Denny Hamlin, both in Toyotas. Chase Elliott was fourth and Hendrick Motorsports teammate Kyle Larson was fifth.
Hamlin led 81 laps and said he thought he had a third-place car with Truex a little better.
NASCAR runs a street course race on July 2 in downtown Chicago.
