The entertainment industry mourns the loss of a true legend as Paxton Whitehead, an esteemed actor renowned for his memorable performances in “Friends,” Broadway, and beyond, has passed away at the age of 85. With a career spanning decades and an indelible impact on stage and screen, Whitehead leaves behind a legacy of talent, versatility, and a remarkable ability to captivate audiences.

Whitehead was born on Oct. 17, 1937, in Kent, England. As he aspired to a career in acting, he studied at London's Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatic Arts beginning when he was 17 years old, according to IMDb. He worked with a small touring company before making his first professional foray in 1956 shortly before signing with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

    Whitehead was married to Scottish actress Patricia Gage from 1971 through 1986 and wed Katherine Jane Robertson in 1987.

    Many will fondly remember Paxton Whitehead for his unforgettable portrayal of Dr. Richard Burke, a beloved character on the hit television series “Friends.” His nuanced performance, blending humor and heartfelt moments, endeared him to millions of viewers and solidified his place in television history.

    Paxton Whitehead, a stage actor who was also known for his many guest appearances in US TV shows has died aged 85 at a hospital in Arlington, Virginia on 16 June, his son Charles confirmed.

    Whitehead was born in Kent and studied at RADA before embarking on an acting career spanning five decades and landing him roles on the stage as well as the big and small screen. He walked the boards of both the West End and Broadway, appearing in stage shows including The Importance of Being Earnest, Noises Off, and Present Laughter.

    English actor Jim Piddock, 67, also paid tribute, saying on Twitter: "Heartbroken to hear my dear friend and mentor Paxton Whitehead has passed away. He was an extraordinary actor, a brilliant friend, and truly wonderful human being.

    "He meant so much to so many people and always brought a smile to the faces of everyone he encountered."

    British actor Jim Piddock tweeted: “Heartbroken to hear my dear friend and mentor Paxton Whitehead has passed away.

    “He was an extraordinary actor, a brilliant friend and truly wonderful human being. He meant so much to so many people and always brought a smile to the faces of everyone he encountered.”
