To the Editor: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” In light of that statement, every person who owns a gun must be a member of a well regulated militia organized and run by the State. That is the purpose for owning a gun. He/she should be required to attend training one week a year and maybe more often for practice and drill. How else can a militia be “well regulated?” The California legislating body needs to pass a law requiring these elements in order to adhere to the Federal Constitution. Give it a try and watch the NRA wiggle out of that one. -Janet Freeman, Ukiah
