2026 RUSSIAN SHORT COURSE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Friday, November 6th – Wednesday, November 11th Nevskaya Volna Water Sports Center, St. Petersburg, Russia SCM (25m) SwimSwam Preview Meet Central Day 1 Recap Live Results

The 2026 Russian Short Course National Championships saw day two unfold from the Nevskaya Volna Water Sports Center in St. Petersburg, with several national record holders diving in for hardware

Not only are national titles on the line, but swimmers will also be vying for slots on the country’s roster for this December’s Short Course World Championships. According to the Russian selection policy, swimmers need to meet or exceed the World Aquatics ‘A’ standard in their respective events in order to make the grade for Beijing next month.

World Record holder Egor Kornev topped the men’s 50m fly event, busting out an effort of 21.69 to get to the wall first.

That held a narrow advantage over Oleg Kostin who posted 21.98 as the runner-up, as Daniil Markov rounded out the podium in 22.34 to upgrade himself from 4th seed to the bronze medal.

Kornev holds the World Record from the 21.28 he produced on the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup circuit last month. The entire podium cleared the World Aquatics ‘A’ standard of 22.43 needed for Beijing.

The women’s 50m fly saw national record holder  Arina Surkova assert her dominance yet again, reaping gold in a speedy result of 25.03. That was well off the Russian standard of 24.58 she put on the books at last year’s edition of this competition but it was enough to get the job done this evening.

That easily cleared the World Aquatics ‘A’ standard of 25.72, with runner-up Polina Malakhova joining her under the barrier in 25.65.

Alexandra Kuznetsova delivered a time of 25.67 to place 3rd in tonight’s final, racing in her 2nd event on the program.

Kuznetsova earlier took on the 100m free semi-finals, where she captured the 3rd seed in 53.31. She’s been as fast as 52.65 in her career, a mark she logged just last month on the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup to become the nation’s 7th-fastest performer to date.

Getting to the wall first to land the pole position was Darya Trofimova, with the 21-year-old athlete clocking a swift 52.29 to hold a strong advantage over her competitors.

Her outing represents a monster lifetime best, destroying her former quickest time of 52.93 from this year’s World Cup. Just like that, the 21-year-old now checks in as Russia’s 4th-fastest female SCM 100 freestyle performer of all time.

Darya Klepikova earned the 2nd seed in 53.04, with the women chasing a QT of 53.02 during tomorrow night’s main event.

Top 5 Russian Women’s SCM 100 Free Performers All-Time

Maria Kameneva – 51.79, 2022 Veronika Andrusenko – 52.02, 2015 Daria Klepikova – 52.04, 2026 Darya Trofimova – 52.29, 2026 Arina Surkova – 52.43, 2019

Both the women’s and men’s 100m backstroke final took place this evening.

In the former event, it was Alina Gaifutdinova who was the top performer, registering a gold medal-worthy outing of 56.63 as the sole swimmer of the field under the 57-second barrier.

Alexandra Kurilkina touched over a second behind in 57.84, with Sofia Maslova bagging the bronze in 58.23.

Only Gaifutdinova earned a time worthy of Beijing, clearing the QT of 57.52 in spades.

Pavel Samusenko was the winner of the men’s edition of the 1back, posting a result of 48.61, a new lifetime best and only the 2nd occasion on which he’s delved into 48-second territory.

Entering this competition, 25-year-old Samusenko’s PB rested at the 48.78 notched in December of last year, so he managed to slice .17 off that prior PB en route to gold.

Evgeny Shilovsky beat out Olympic medalist Kliment Kolesnikov for the silver medal. Shilovsky scored a time of 50.46, with Kolesnikov relegated to bronze in 50.58.

17-year-old Ksenia Misharina is now 2-for-2 in terms of gold medals and Russian Age Records. She was last night’s 400m free victor, while tonight she doubled up with a similar feat in the 800m distance.

Misharina stopped the clock at a mighty 8:14.46 to establish the new age record, qualifying for the Short Course World Championships in the process.

Sofya Dyakova produced a time of 8:22.76 as the distant runner-up, as Polina Kozyakina rounded out the podium in 8:25.84.

Additional Notes

The women’s 100m breaststroke semi-final saw World Record holder Evgenia Chikunova turn in a top time of 1:05.56, leading the pack by just .08. Sofya Aufrieva and Ralina Gilyazova will flank Chikunova during tomorrow night’s medal-contending contest. Alexander Zhigalov led a trio of men who dipped under the 57-second barrier in the 100m breast, holding steady as the top-seeded swimmer in 56.56. Veteran and Olympian Kirill Prigoda earned the 2nd seed in 56.82, and Daniil Pisetskii was next in line at 56.96. Dmitry Zhavoronkov followed suit for the men, turning in a time of 46.77 to land lane four for tomorrow night’s final.
