We got some good news today on the Kyle Monangai front, but I probably wouldn’t get too excited just yet.

On Friday, Kyle Monangai appeared on the Bears injury report as a limited participant, carrying a questionable designation into the weekend. It’s the first time Monangai has practiced since his turf toe injury last month, and the first time he hasn’t been ruled out heading into the weekend. Head coach Ben Johnson said on Wednesday that Monagai’s eventual return would be a “shot in the arm” for Chicago’s rushing attack, and he’s not wrong. Still, this feels like a step in the right direction, for after the bye week.

— Adam Jahns (@adamjahns) November 6, 2026 Yes, Monangai was back at practice today, and yes, he’s not been ruled out for Sunday. But with just Sunday standing between the Bears and the bye week, and Monangai’s injury proving to be, as Johnson put it today, “fickle,” it feels like it would be prudent for the Bears to sit Monangai for one more game, and buy him two weeks of rest and practice time before they take on the New Orleans Saints on November 22. Knowing Johnson, that feels like the likeliest path for Monangai. Nonetheless, Monangai getting back on the practice field is that first step in the right direction we’ve been looking for for much of the last month, and makes you feel pretty good about him returning for the second half of the schedule out of the bye week. Monangai rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries, the first big game of his career. Two weeks later, he exploded for 176 yards on 26 carries against the Bengals. On today’s episode of Rahmi & Grote on The Score, CHGO’s Adam Hoge shared some interesting optimism about a conversation he recently had with Jaylon Johnson.

— 104.3 The Score (@thescorechicago) November 6, 2026 Hoge said that he spoke with Johnson recently. When Hoge asked Johnson if there are adjustments in his game that he needs to make post-injury, Johnson responded with an alternative theory: that his struggles are more related to him adjusting what is asked of him in Dennis Allen’s defense. I suppose that notion has some validity. Johnson missed almost all of last season, Allen’s first season as the defensive coordinator in Chicago. But we’re two-plus months (and a healthy training camp, preseason, and offseason program) into Johnson in Allen’s defense this year, and the results have been less than ideal, as nicely as I can put it. Perhaps, though, if Johnson gets better as the season goes on, we can point back to this. Like Hoge, I’m not sure whether All-Pro Johnson is inside him, but any semblance of improvement would boost that unit’s success, especially if they choose not to address the cornerback position ahead of next week’s trade deadline. — Jake Fahey (@JF58_) November 6, 2026 Rome Odunze hasn’t been the “No.1” wide receiver most people imagine when they use that term, but there’s no doubt his presence has been felt in the success of the Bears offense. Odunze’s 14 receptions of 20-plus yards rank second in the league this season to Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s 16. Also notable, Luther Burden III has 12 such receptions, which ranks fourth, with Green Bay’s Christian Watson between Odunze and Burden with 13. I’ll leave you with this:
