Joanna Gaines and her husband, Chip Gaines of Fixer Upper fame, have five children, ranging in ages from 21 to 8.
During an appearance on the November 5 episode of Kylie Kelce’s podcast, Not Gonna Lie, Joanna shared that she enjoys being a mother of five. The former HGTV personality even encouraged Kelce, who has four children, to add one more to her family.
Joanna then shared that she wanted more children after having her fifth child, Crew.
“When I had Crew at 40, I said, ‘Chip, I want him to have more siblings.’ I really thought I’d have nine children,” said Joanna.
Joanna said her husband, whom she wed in 2003, was against the idea of having more children. However, Chip is now interested in expanding their family and has told quite a few people they are expecting, despite Joanna not being pregnant.
“You know what he’s doing? He’s telling everybody I’m pregnant. And just for the record, I’m not. His parents came to a football game,” said Joanna while recording the Not Gonna Lie episode. “He’s like, ‘Jo, tell mom and dad.’ So, he’s told our grown kids, ‘Mom is pregnant.’ My daughter said, ‘I’m not coming home if this is true.’”
According to Joanna, Chip even said she was pregnant to a large group of fans.
“He’s like trying to speak it out into the universe. We did the speaking thing last week in front of 2,000 people, and he said, ‘If anyone has any connection to TMZ, will you tell them that my wife is.’ So that whole audience thinks I’m pregnant,” said the 48-year-old.
Joanna clarified that she wouldn’t be opposed to having more children.
“I’d have more babies if I could,” said the interior designer.
Joanna and Chip’s two eldest children, Drake, 21, and Ella, 20, have both moved away from their family home in Waco, Texas, to attend college.
During an August 2025 interview on The Today Show, Joanna shared that while she was getting used to Drake being away at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Texas, she was still emotional about Ella heading off to study at New York’s Parsons School of Design at The New School.
“She left last week. So it’s still raw. I’m like, ‘Oh god, help me.’ It feels different because she went further, and she’s my girl,” explained Joanna in the 2025 interview.
