A New York City woman is currently on life support after she was stabbed during a seemingly random attack while on a jog less than one mile away from her home in Brooklyn.
Police said that Katie Suarez was stabbed in the neck on a run along the Belt Parkway waterfront in Brooklyn on the evening of Friday, October 30.
Suarez, 28, called her father around 8 p.m. to tell him she was about a half mile from home. NYPD Chief of Detectives Joe Kenny said that when she did not return home, her parents went out to look for her and her father found her suffering from severe puncture wounds to the neck.
Kenny opened up about the attack while speaking to ABC News on Monday, November 2, revealing that a long blood trail that was about 150 feet was found at the crime scene.

“It was a very, very large crime scene,” he said.
Nothing appeared to have been taken from Suarez, while there was no indication that she was sexually assaulted during the attack.
“We believe it to be some sort of random attack at this time,” Kenny said. “She was a very private person. For someone to know that she was going to be there at that exact time would be extraordinary for us to find out.”
The attack took place along the Shore Parkway Greenway in Brooklyn. Police said that there are no cameras in the area, while no one in the neighborhood has reported having footage of the attack.
Kenny said that a license plate reader captured about 1,700 cars passing through the area at the time of the attack. As the investigation continues, he said that detectives are hoping to get into contact with drivers with dash cameras that may have any information regarding the incident.
Following the attack, the NYPD released a photo of Suarez as they asked the public if anyone may have seen her on the day of the attack. In the photo, the avid runner wore a T-shirt and bib from the Frozen Bonsai 5K in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park that took place in March.

Police have asked that anyone who may have seen Suarez on Friday between 7:56 p.m. and 8:12 p.m. to come forward with any information they may have.
“We’re looking for any interaction that she may have had alongside the pathway,” Kenny told the outlet. “There’s always fishermen out there. We’re interviewing them.”
Police are currently offering a $10,000 reward for anyone who provides information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information regarding the assault should contact the NYPD at 1-800-577-8477.
