TMZ obtained the death certificate, which noted that the Star Trek icon was cremated on Oct. 30, 2026. He was then laid to rest at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles.
This is a poignant and meaningful place for the family. Koenig’s son Andrew was laid to rest at the same place following his death at the age of 41. Andrew died by suicide, with a heartbreaking story surrounding his death. He was last seen on Valentine’s Day 2010 and was found in Vancouver’s Stanley Park on Feb. 25. However, his suspected date of death was listed as Feb. 16.
His wife, Judy Koenig, died in 2022, and she was also laid to rest in the same cemetery. The two married in 1965 and remained married until her death.
As well as the final resting place, Koenig’s cause of death was also confirmed, written as cardiopulmonary arrest on the death certificate. While that was classed as the immediate cause of death, chronic diastolic congestive heart failure was listed as an underlying cause, and acute renal failure was also listed as a significant contributing factor.
Koenig, who became a household name as Pavel Chekov on the original Star Trek series, was with his daughter and niece at the time of his death. He appeared in 36 episodes of the original show, and then appeared in Star Trek: The Motion Picture and Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan.
He didn’t just stick with this sci-fi series, though. He also appeared on Babylon 5 and voiced a version of himself (as a head in a jar) on Futurama, and stepped outside of the science fiction realm with a role on Columbo. On Babylon 5, he made it clear that he could step outside of a role that had made him famous, taking on the challenge of the chilling and manipulative Alfred Bester.
