The Blackhawks lost again last night. They started great. They competed in the third period. But their mistakes wound up in the back of the net. The better team won the game. It’s really that simple at this point. Now, the Blackhawks leave on a road trip that sees them play the Panthers, Lightning and Hurricanes in a span of four days.
But hey, the Bears won! We’ve got that going for us… which is nice.
Patrick Kane left the Blackhawks’ bench late in the second period and did not return last night. After the game, Blackhawks head coach Jeff Blashill said Kane is going to miss at least the next couple games because of an upper-body injury. Here are some of Patrick Kane's shifts from the second period before he left with an injury. #Blackhawks pic.twitter.com/Pv8LmXjt9v
— Charlie Roumeliotis (@CRoumeliotis) November 3, 2026 After the morning skate on Monday, Blackhawks head coach Jeff Blashill was asked about defenseman Bowen Byram. Byram was not on the ice at the morning skate after being around the rest of the team more in recent days. Blashill was emphatic with us that Byram was not medically cleared yet and had not had any kind of a setback. He was meeting with specialists to hopefully cross another hurdle for his return. Which contradicts this report from Frank Seravalli on the pregame show over the weekend. The latest on Byram: pic.twitter.com/JSoHjTUisE
— BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) October 31, 2026 Which, to me, begs the question where Seravalli got his information that Byram was cleared. Artyom Levshunov made a bad, not-legal, high hit on Cale Makar last night. He left his feet and hit Makar in the head.Better look: t.co/BtgcilMLdP pic.twitter.com/QuR8NNGaBD
— BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) November 3, 2026 Levshunov was immediately jumped by Martin Nečas. Levshunov received a two-minute minor for elbowing Makar and another two for roughing Nečas, who received a matching roughing minor. The rest of the night, the Avs took every opportunity to hit, whack and talk to Levshunov. And, honestly, this is the type of response many Blackhawks fans have begged to see from them when someone takes liberties with a Chicago player. I don’t fault the Avs whatsoever, and the guy doing a lot of the hitting was their captain, Gabriel Landeskog.Avalanche are still upset: t.co/BtgcilMdoh pic.twitter.com/k37H6WBHZq
— BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) November 3, 2026 Here’s what Landeskog had to say about the play — and the Avs targeting Levshunov the rest of the night — after the game (tweeted by Corey Masisak): Blashill was also asked about his top three centers and if he plans on keeping Connor Bedard, Anton Frondell and Frank Nazar where they’ve been for the past handful of games. He said he likes how they’re playing and plans to stay with that lineup down the middle.“[Frondell] is really coming into his own as a centerman. That’s a huge asset to have in this league, a guy with that mass and size [at] center. And if you look at the history of [Nazar], when he really became an elite player is when he switched to center at the USNTDP… so I’m not in a hurry to move any of those guys out [of center]… ultimately you have to have three dangerous lines in this league—or at least three lines with big roles in this league—to be a really good team.”
Steven Ellis updated his top ten rookies in the race to win the Calder Trophy this season on Monday. He has Frondell at No. 8 right now. The Blackhawks’ other rookie, Roman Kantserov, did not make his top ten. Here’s what he wrote about Frondell:It’s not easy being a rookie and stepping into a top-six role immediately, even with previous pro experience. But Frondell has been solid for the Hawks, playing around a 40-point pace while averaging close to 17 minutes a night as the No. 2 center. He’s still figuring out the grind of the NHL, obviously. But the strong, two-way center has been a handful to contain on the rush and loves firing one-timers. The Blackhawks have struggled to produce, but Frondell has been legitimately one of Chicago’s most intriguing scoring threats early on. Even if he doesn’t win the Calder, he has as good a shot as anyone on this list at becoming a star NHLer thanks to his all-around upside.
The Calder Trophy race is fun this year.Nobody is standing out like Matthew Schaefer did early last year, but the competition is DEEP.For @DailyFaceoff: t.co/DdXAfT3Wle
— Steven Ellis (@SEllisHockey) November 2, 2026 I shared on Twitter that it was a full press box again last night, with 13 teams represented by someone in a scouting capacity. For what it’s worth, the Washington Capitals have now been at three of the last four Blackhawks games. The Blackhawks have been linked to Ivan Miroshnichenko by a few folks. Finally, Nikita Kucherov spoke with the media for the first time since the bombshell news dropped that he had informed the Lightning that he does not intend on signing another contract there and has requested a trade. There are some hurt feelings here.“It was never about the money for me,” Kucherov said. “It was more about poor communication and respect. The last four months, we’ve had two conversations. Julien made it clear that I’m free to walk on July 1.”
