I’m still trying to process what we just watched, but I think that’s the most impressive Bears performance I can remember. Including the year the Bears went to the Super Bowl and lost to the Colts. That was the most complete Bears game I can remember watching. The defense was awesome, and so much better with Jeffery Simmons. The offense clicked and put up points against one of the league’s top defenses. What a win. Who can’t this team beat?

Bears Instant Grades

Offense

QB Caleb Williams | A

Caleb is awesome. He’s an unreal, generational quarterback, and if you had any doubts, tonight should have confirmed it. He wasn’t perfect. But he made huge throws when he needed to. Was poised in the pocket against a great pass rush and delivered huge passes when needed. The Bears went up against a top-two defense in football, on the road, in primetime, and won BECAUSE of the quarterback. We’re so, so lucky.

RB D’Andre Swift | A

Not one. Not two. BUT THREE. Was he or the running game perfect? No. But they went up against the best (or one of the two best) defensive fronts in football and did enough to get the job done.

WR Rome Odunze | B

Rome Odunze made some big catches in big spots. He’s had some tough drops this year, but since then, he’s answered the bell.

WR Luther Burden III | B

Similar to Rome, he made some big catches early and flashed like a top receiver should.

TE Colston Loveland | C

Probably would have been a B, but the fumbles are never acceptable, especially in your own territory in the fourth quarter.

Offensive Line | B

They weren’t perfect tonight, but they ran the ball when they had to and did a decent job keeping Caleb upright against a top defense.

Defense

Defensive Line | A

Anyone who tells you that defensive tackle isn’t a premier position is either lying to you or doesn’t know football. Tonight’s game showed you EXACTLY how important a defensive tackle can be. Jeffery Simmons made everyone better. Montez Sweat had his best game of the year. Devin Bush had his best game of the year. Dennis Allen had his best game of the year. Jeffery Simmons is so good, and he made the whole defensive line so much better.

Linebackers | B+

Devin Bush was awesome tonight. He flashed more than in any other game as a Bear, I thought. The defense was great overall.

Secondary | B

Jaylon Johnson struggled yet again, but I thought everyone else in this unit had their moments, even if it wasn’t perfect.

Special Teams

K Cairo Santos | A

Made his kicks and was very good in the kickoff game.

P Tory Taylor | B

They had a punt blocked, which isn’t really on him, but he was fine tonight.

Bears Coaching

Ben Johnson | A+

The Chicago Bears went on the road against the defending Super Bowl champs who just held Patrick Mahomes to three points and put up 34 points. The Bears have the best coach-and-quarterback combo in football.

Dennis Allen | A

The Bears neutralized JSN, made Sam Darnold look average, and contained the Seahawks’ running game. I’m so excited to see how Dennis Allen calls a defense with Jeffery Simmons the rest of the season.
