It took a while 57 seconds for Cale Makar to put a puck in the back of the net at the start of this game. The good news: he redirected a Wyatt Kaiser shots just enough that it trickled in and gave the Blackhawks an early lead. Six minutes later, the Hawks doubled their lead on a nice breakaway and… they were skating with the Avs. The fun was short lived, unfortunately. The Avs appeared to score a goal, but a coach’s challenge got it taken off the board because of goaltender interference. Colorado didn’t stop attacking, and scored twice in 26 seconds to tie the game at two. That’s where the score remained to the first intermission.
The Blackhawks played with fire just long enough they got burned in the second period. After two successful penalty kills, the Hawks gave up a go-ahead goal on the Avs’ third power play of the period. And, with 10 seconds left in the second period at which point the Blackhawks were fighting to break even for 20 minutes, another goal leaked thru Spencer Knight and trickled into the net to give Colorado a 4-2 lead after 40 minutes. The fourth goal was a bad one — and hurt even more that the Hawks had fought back to keep it close after killing as much penalty time as they had to that point in the game.
Chasing two goals, the Blackhawks didn’t back away from the physical pressure of the Avalanche. When we took a media timeout with 3:20 left in regulation, the Blackhawks were out-shooting the Avs 8-2 in the period. Shot attempts were 19-8 in favor of Chicago at that point, but they hadn’t been able to capitalize. When Colorado sunk a shot from the far faceoff circle into an empty net with 2:22 left, the lead was three and the fans collected their belongings and headed for the doors.
Star 1: Roman Kantserov
Kantserov scored the Blackhawks’ second goal of the first period and was flying all night. The goal extended Kantserov’s personal point streak to five games, and at the end of two periods he was tied with Frank Nazar for the team lead with three individual scoring chances.

Bedard was feisty and physical the entire night. His assist on the Kantserov goal extended his personal point streak to six games.

The Blackhawks won 7 of 20 faceoffs in the first period. Bedard and Nazar won 6 of 10 combined. So… you do the math for the rest of the roster. At the end of the second period, the Blackhawks had collectively won 21 of 46 faceoffs (46 percent), led by Nazar (9 of 13). And, thru two periods, Nazar led the team in individual scoring chances (tied with Kantserov) and had the highest individual expected goals for on the Hawks (0.29). He danced a defender and flipped a backhand shot on net that almost tied the game early in the third period, but he got the crossbar and a post.
Key Takeaways
Wyatt Kaiser scored the first goal of the game (with an assist from Cale Makar), but he had a good night overall. The Blackhawks were basically rolling four defensemen again, and Kaiser had skated 12:34 thru two periods with two hits, one blocked shot and one shot on net. He spent 3:19 on the penalty kill in the first 40 minutes, which was third among Hawks defensemen.#Blackhawks lead 1-0 after 57 seconds ? Wyatt Kaiser ? Ryan Donato pic.twitter.com/RZ278CA0FS
— Bleacher Nation Blackhawks (@BN_Blackhawks) November 3, 2026 The Hawks started the second period with Patrick Kane on the top line with Bedard and Kantserov. The second period ended with Kane not on the Blackhawks’ bench and Nazar skating in his spot on the top power play unit. Kane didn’t take a shift in the final 5:07 of the second period. He did not return to the game. Late in the first period, Artyom Levshunov got the launch codes and made a high, not-legal hit that caused Martin Nečas to throw hands. Not a smart play by Levshunov, who left his feet and made contract with the head. Both players got two minutes for roughing and Levshunov got an extra two for the elbow.High hit by Levshunov leads to a scrum: pic.twitter.com/L0r1LciOXI
— BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) November 3, 2026 In the middle of the second period, Levshunov jumped to swat at a puck with his hand. He got flipped by Colorado captain Gabriel Landeskog. It was a full Arty Party tonight at the United Center.t.co/aLt16HWhWi pic.twitter.com/mDaIZNvTSh
— BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) November 3, 2026 Anton Frondell‘s line spent most of the night skating against Nathan MacKinnon’s line at 5-on-5. Again, I liked Ethan Del Mastro‘s game even though he barely got on the ice. He finished tied for the team lead in hits in only 11 minutes of ice time Knight absolutely has to find a way to get rid of the loose pucks slipping thru him. Way too many goals getting tapped in after he thinks he has the puck controlled. He had two of those tonight in the first two periods — and the Blackhawks trailed by two after 40 minutes.Hence then, the article about blackhawks 2 avalanche 5 three stars key takeaways was published today ( ) and is available on Bleacher Nation ( Middle East ) The editorial team at PressBee has edited and verified it, and it may have been modified, fully republished, or quoted.
