Much will be new for Alabama women’s basketball in the 2026-27 season. First-year head coach Pauline Love has revamped both the Crimson Tide’s coaching staff and roster ahead of her first season at the reins of the program.
But among the most significant changes for the program is the upgraded practice facility Alabama enters the season with. After a brand new practice facility and weight room was opened for the men’s basketball team as an attachment to Coleman Coliseum, the women’s team has moved into what previously was the men’s practice area.
The women’s team hasn’t been using its new practice venue for long, but players are already reaping the benefits of the renovated facility.
“We get 24-hour access,” said sophomore Ace Austin at SEC media day. “Luckily, they haven’t had to shut the doors on us, but when we get shots up, we’re going to get shots.”
The existing facility received a renovation of over 19,000 square feet, and it now serves as the exclusive practice area for Love’s team. After previously sharing facilities with the men’s team, having its own venue marks a major step forward for Alabama women’s basketball.
“It’s a big difference to go in the gym and have full access whenever we want,” Love said, “especially for the expectations we have for this team, because we hold them at a high standard.”
Among the new features in the facility is technology that tracks how many shots players put up in the practice gym. With regular shootarounds before and after practice, this feature has made it easier for the coaches to track their players’ progress.
“It’s just good to be able to have that access,” Love said. “All I’ve got to do is scan, and we’ll be able to track it. I just think it’s just elevated just the University and our women’s basketball program.”
The renovation also came with a new-look locker room and a player’s lounge. One of the reasons for the redesign was to help Alabama’s recruiting when it brings players in for visits.
Results on that front have been promising, as newcomers to Alabama’s team have found the renovated facility impressive. Louisiana Tech transfer guard Paris Bradley, for one, said she has appreciated the size of the space.
“We have a lot of space now,” she said at SEC media day. “I’m not sure what it looked like before — I wasn’t at Alabama, but I do feel like it’s very spacious.”
It is yet to be seen how Alabama will fare on the court under Love, but the renovation to the team’s facilities is a sure sign that resources are being poured in to set the program up for success.
“I’m just so thankful that they’ve bought into women’s basketball,” Austin said. “It’s been helpful to us.”
