Good morning! Jeffery Simmons makes his Bears debut today. Are you ready for it?
This might be the biggest Bears debut since Caleb Williams’ rookie debut in 2024. I don’t have to think long and hard about a defensive player who moved the needle for this fan base in this way because I was here at this keyboard when the Khalil Mack trade broke. But other than Mack, I struggle to think of a defensive player whose arrival brought so much hope. Usually, that kind of buzz is reserved for QBs. Hence, this feels different. I’m excited about what’s on the horizon. Who needs coffee when this hype video exists? Bears right guard Jonah Jackson (who probably deserves some Pro Bowl recognition for his fine play this season) had some stuff to say about the new guy. “He’s a dynamic player,” Jackson said, via the team’s official website. “He can play the run very well. He can pass rush incredibly well. It’s nice to have him on our team now. We don’t have to go against him. When you have a guy like this, you’ve got to game plan for him. You have to know where he is at all times.” I think Jeffery Simmons’ arrival to the defensive line can make the same impact that trading for Joe Thuney did for the Bears’ offensive line. Adding an impact player who makes everyone around him better checks the two most important boxes when making an acquisition of this magnitude. Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson says Simmons will play on Monday. Simmons figures to play a significant snap count, but Johnson warns the new defensive tackle might not get his normal load of work. Still, it doesn’t seem like Johnson is worried about the transition process. Via Pro Football Talk:“He’s played a lot of football, he’s been in a few different defensive schemes, and I think DA is going to be able to find a spot to do what he does best,” Johnson said. “We don’t want him thinking out there, and that’s what you’re conscious of coming into a new team, but he’s a smart guy and we’ve been encouraged by what we’ve seen so far.”
Ultimately, Johnson thinks Simmons will fit in perfectly.
“I just told him I want him to be himself, be his productive self,” Johnson said. “He’s gonna help us win.”
I spent some time digging into Mel Kiper Jr.’s first 2027 NFL Draft Big Board rankings at ESPN, which made me feel better about the Bears trading a 2027 first-round pick to get Simmons. Given where the Bears project to pick, I don’t think they were landing a player of Simmons’ caliber on a rookie-scale deal in that spot. This isn’t an opinion I would’ve had earlier in the year when there was more hype surrounding the QBs in this class. But with that group stumbling out of the gate, it makes it feel more likely that we won’t get the kind of run on quarterbacks going off the board in Round 1 that would push impact players at other positions down the board. It’s cool that Simmons’ former Titans teammates are finding ways to honor their old friend:The @Titans d-linemen wore red sleeves to honor @GrindSimmons94. @SollyThomas90 explains why. t.co/gkmBYPqNlI

ICYMI: There is a buzz building around the idea that the Bears could trade backup quarterback Tyson Bagent to the Baltimore Ravens, who lost starter Lamar Jackson and backup “Snoop” Huntley to injuries. This is an easy connection to make, given that (1) Bears QB1 Caleb Williams is healthy, (2) Bagent’s connection with Ravens Offensive Coordinator Declan Doyle, and (3) Baltimore’s need at the position. There has been ample discussion around the idea since Sunday afternoon:If Declan Doyle needs a QB…. ?
— Silvy (@WaddleandSilvy) November 1, 2026Ravens OC Declan Doyle certainly has familiarity with the Bears’ two backup quarterbacks, Tyson Bagent and Case Keenum, if Baltimore is seeking an arm before the trade deadline.

— Da Bears (@chicagobearsx.bsky.social) November 1, 2026 at 7:11 PM More from NFL insider Ian Rapoport, who also connects the Bagent as a possible trade target for the Ravens:From @GMFB: #Ravens QB Lamar Jackson (thumb) could be out for the season, Snoop Huntley (toe) is out for the foreseeable future, and Joe Fagnano is next up. What does the future hold for Baltimore? t.co/fSpQbNizKt
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) November 2, 2026 I thought this was the most pertinent part of Rap Sheet’s morning hit:“I do expect the Baltimore Ravens to go out and consider some QB trades. Some of the main discussions now is: How bold do you want to be? You want to go spend a lot of capital and trade for a quarterback for a season that may be lost because you don’t have Lamar. Or is it going to be a stopgap and then you end up as sellers? These are real decisions for Ravens General Manager Eric DeCosta and the rest of the Ravens brass.
Tyson Bagent, the Chicago Bears backup quarterback who has been on-again, off-again, obviously played with Declan Doyle, their offensive coordinator last year, would be a potential name to consider. Jacoby Brissett, essentially benched in Arizona. Could he be a name that’s available? There are some options. They’re not great options. But there are some options for the Baltimore Ravens.”
Three quick thoughts. Firstly, that is not a ringing endorsement for Bagent, Brissett, or their trade values. So scale back your expectations for a potential return on a Bagent trade if one comes down the pipeline. Secondly, Rapoport’s framing of the Bagent-Ravens connection is much softer than what Jason La Canfora was reporting. Given JLC’s history on Bears scoops, it gives me pause. Thirdly, with the Bears playing on Monday Night Football and the Ravens’ next game coming on Thursday Night Football, I struggle to see a scenario in which Bagent starts for Baltimore on TNF. But hey, stranger things have happened. Oct 11, 2026; Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA; Chicago Bears quarterback Tyson Bagent (17) looks to pass the ball against the Green Bay Packers during the second quarter at Lambeau Field. Mandatory Credit: Mike Dinovo-Imagn Images If it were up to me, I’d gladly accept any trade for Bagent that nets this team any useful draft capital. Picks that can be used this year before the Nov. 10 NFL Trade Deadline or in an upcoming NFL Draft would be welcome. Clearing Bagent’s money from the books (potentially $4.25 million in cap savings) would be a nice bonus. Plus, it could position Johnson and this scouting department to target their own hand-picked developmental quarterback option. This feels like a good time to remind folks to be careful navigating the rumor mill. Between grifters, faux insider “parody” accounts, and the game of telephone that gets played via social media, sometimes things aren’t what they seem. This doesn’t mean that these rumors aren’t worth discussing. It’s just that it is important to know your source info before you risk sharing bad info. I’d hate for any of us to get got by someone using your passion for the Bears to make you look foolish.6
