For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
High school junior Aaron Roy from Bridgewater, New Jersey, has announced his verbal commitment to the admission process* at Yale University for 2028-29. He wrote on social media:
“I am extremely excited and honored to announce my verbal commitment to the admissions process at Yale university, where I will pursue my athletic and academic career! First, I’m thankful to god for guiding me, because none of this would be possible without Him. I would like to thank my mom and my dad for their unwavering support, guidance, and sacrifice throughout this journey. I’d like to also thank the rest of my family and friends for making this dream come true. Next, thank you to Coach Tom, Coach Jake, Coach Kyle and all the coaches who have helped me over the years for pushing me and shaping me into the swimmer I am today. I would like to give a special shoutout to Coach Joey for believing in me from the very start and giving me this chance to hone my skills at Yale. Always remember to not let someone tell you what you can or cannot do-the sky’s the limit. I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity and I can’t wait to work with Yale’s swimming coaching staff! GO BULLDOGS!!!!!!!”
Roy is a junior at Bridgewater-Raritan High School. He swims year-round with Scarlet Aquatics and specializes mainly in sprint free, back, and fly. At the New Jersey High School Meet of Champions last season, he placed 4th in the 50 free (20.86) and 6th in the 100 free (46.73) and swam legs on the winning 200 medley (21.91 fly) and 400 free (45.29 flying start) relays.
At 2025 Winter Juniors East, Roy competed in the 50 free (20.72), 100 free (46.64), and 100 fly (51.38), and he led off SCAR’s 200/400 free relays in 20.59/46.71. He also anchored both medley relays (20.70/46.12). A couple of months earlier, he had notched a PB in the 50 free (20.58), 100 back (50.46), and 100 fly (49.29) at SwimMAC’s November LC Invitational.
In March, at New Jersey Swimming’s Senior Short Course Championships, he lowered his PBs in the 100 free (45.07), 50 back (22.32), 100 back (50.10), 50 fly (21.73), and 100 fly (49.27) while winning the 50 free, 100 free, and 50 fly, and coming in 2nd or 3rd in the 50 back, 100 back, and 100 fly.
This summer, Roy competed at U.S. National Championships in the 50 free (23.99), 50 back (26.95), 100 back (59.56), and 50 fly (25.98), earning lifetime bests in all but the 50 free. The following week, he swam the 50/100 free, 50 back, and 50 fly at Summer Junior Nationals, where he lowered his times in the 50 free (23.80), 100 free (52.86), and 100 back (59.29).
Roy will join Cale Barker in the Bulldogs’ class of 2032. In addition to what he brings in eventual scoring potential for his individual events, Roy will be a valuable relay contributor when he begins at Yale in two years. It took 20.05/44.02 in sprint free, 48.86 in the 100 back, and 47.87 in the 100 fly to score at the 2026 Ivy League Men’s Championships.
Best SCY times:
50 free – 20.58 100 free – 45.07 50 back – 22.32 100 back – 49.73 50 fly – 21.53 100 fly – 49.27*Note: A verbal commitment between an Ivy League coach and a prospective student-athlete is not an offer of admission, as only the Admission Office has that authority. The coach can only commit his or her support in the admission process. Ivy League Admission Offices do not issue “Likely Letters” before October 1 of the prospective student-athlete’s senior year of high school. The Likely Letter, while issued after an initial read of the student’s application, is not an offer of admission to the university.
