Alabama rises to No. 9 in final AP poll before CFP rankings release ...Middle East

News by : (The Crimson White) -

Alabama football moved up one spot in Sunday’s latest edition of the Associated Press Top 25 in the final release of the poll before the College Football Playoff rankings are released Tuesday.

The Crimson Tide boasts two wins against teams ranked in this week’s poll: No. 23 South Carolina and No. 8 Kentucky. Alabama will face No. 15 LSU in a top-15 matchup at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge on Saturday as the Crimson Tide looks to keep its CFP hopes alive.

As of Sunday, Alabama has a 60% chance to make the 12-team field, per ESPN’s Allstate Playoff Predictor. If the Crimson Tide were to win out and take home the SEC championship, it would have a 68% chance of earning a first-round bye.

“The season’s two-thirds over, and we got our goals in front of us,” said Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer on the SEC Coaches Teleconference Wednesday. “[We] need to continue to just stay the course and continue to improve. Bye week for both our teams. I know it’s going to be a heck of a game here in a week and a half.”

Chaos again ensued in college football, as Ohio State became the fourth team ranked No. 1 or No. 2 to fall to an unranked opponent in the last four weeks. No. 1 Miami escaped a near-upset from North Carolina, while Indiana escaped Minnesota 23-16 in an overtime thriller.

The Hoosiers dropped two spots from No. 4 to No. 6, while the Buckeyes fell out of the top 10, slipping nine spots to No. 11 following their 30-18 loss to Southern California in Los Angeles on Saturday night. The Trojans, a week after a 24-7 loss to Wisconsin, climbed back into the Top 25 and checked in at No. 18.

“I say this all the time. Every game is its own season,” said Southern California head coach Lincoln Riley. “It’s just what it feels like. This was a big one.”

Ten SEC teams made the cut in this week’s poll, including No. 25 Florida, which fell to now-No. 2 Georgia by 27-8 in Atlanta, as the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party, which moved inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium due to stadium renovations in Jacksonville.

Alabama and LSU will meet in a consequential game for both teams’ CFP ambitions. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT and can be found on ABC.
