The Sex and the City franchise may have said goodbye to its latest installation, And Just Like That…, in August 2025, but Kyle MacLachlan thinks it’s about time his SATC character Trey MacDougal made a comeback. According to E! Online, while attending Heidi Klum’s Halloween party in New York City with his son, Callum, the 67-year-old actor recently revealed that he would be interested in returning to the franchise if given the chance.
“Oh, would I ever! Absolutely,” MacLachlan told E! News when asked if he’d return to SATC. “Come on, Trey has to come back.”
The actor added, “He’s got unfinished business. Of course, that would be fun.”
MacLachlan joked that he’s ready to “start some vicious rumors” about his return to the SATC franchise in a future iteration.
“It’s going to happen, very, very soon,” he quipped. “I know this is going to get picked up and going to be the logline and that’s how it’s going to work.”
Part of the actor’s interest in playing MacDougal—who was the first husband of Kristin Davis’ Charlotte York on the show—again is the memory of his time on SATC.
“There are very many memories,” MacLachlan, who appeared in Season 4 of the HBO series in 2002, shared. “I think working with Kristin Davis is one of my most favorite. We had a really wonderful run. I love her dearly, and she’s so wonderful. And so anytime working with her was special.”
And while an on-screen reunion is still up in the air, MacLachlan and Davis do bump into each other in real life.
“I still see her occasionally,” MacLachlan said of Davis. “Occasionally I see Chris [Noth] out and about. [Showrunner] Michael Patrick King and then we’re good friends with Darren Starr, who was the original creator of it. So, we stay in touch with a few of them.”
SATC aired on HBO from 1998 to 2004. After two follow up films in 2007 and 2010 respectively, And Just Like That…, a revival and sequel of the original series, premiered on HBO Max in December 2021. The final episode of the revival series aired on August 14, 2025.
