Four days after a dominant EFL Cup victory, David Moyes’ side will once again look to get the better of the Magpies. We look ahead to Monday’s Premier League clash with our Newcastle vs Everton prediction and preview.
Newcastle vs Everton: The Key Stats
Despite Thursday’s loss to Everton in the EFL Cup, the Opta supercomputer backs Newcastle with a 45.9% chance of victory. The Magpies have won just one of their last six Premier League matches against Everton (D2 L3), after winning five of their previous six (L1). The Toffees have won in each of their last two visits to St. James’ Park and could win in three straight visits for the very first time.David Moyes will hope his Everton side can replicate their superb EFL Cup performance when they travel to St. James’ Park to face Newcastle United again on Monday.
Everton booked their place in the EFL Cup quarter-finals on Thursday with a 3-1 victory over the Magpies at Hill Dickinson Stadium, with Thierno Barry all finding the net.
While that result will undoubtedly boost their confidence, the Toffees have not quite managed to display the same fluency in the Premier League.
They have lost their last two league matches, including a 2-0 defeat at Arsenal last weekend, having last suffered three straight losses in January 2025.
Everton have not lost three on the trot under Moyes since October 2011, and the Scot will be desperate to keep it that way, but their recent away form does not inspire much confidence.
Since a dramatic 3-2 win on Tyneside in February, the Toffees are winless in all nine of their away Premier League matches (D5 L4), their worst run since going 14 without victory on the road between December 2023 and September 2024.
Newcastle, meanwhile, will be looking to make swift amends for Thursday’s EFL Cup elimination.
Matthias Jaissle’s side had already suffered a blip with back-to-back league defeats to Coventry City and Aston Villa, though they returned to winning ways with a confident 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace last weekend.
If Newcastle are to get revenge, sorting their leaky defence would go a long way.
Across the opening eight Premier League matchdays, Newcastle faced more shots than any other side (138), with those efforts amounting to an expected goals (xG) value of 13.7, the fourth-worst figure in the league.
It has been a persistent problem, with the Magpies facing at least 15 shots in six of those eight matches, the joint most of any team along with Coventry.
Everton’s main concerns, meanwhile, also lie at the defensive end. The Toffees have made a habit of conceding the opening goal, going 1-0 down in 16 Premier League games in 2026, more often than every side bar Sunderland (18).
Indeed, Everton have won just one of their last 21 Premier League matches when conceding the opener (D7 L13), and none of their last 12 (D5 L7).
To address those issues, Moyes may turn to his Mr. Reliable, Matias Fernandez-Pardo and Jack Grealish‘s availability remains after the winger sat out the EFL Cup tie for breaching club protocols.
Newcastle vs Everton Head-to-Head
Newcastle have not fared too well in recent Premier League clashes against Everton, having won just one of their last six meetings (D2 L3); this after winning five of the previous six, suffering just one loss in that run.
The Toffees, meanwhile, will be eyeing a third straight away victory against Newcastle in what will be their 91st visit to St. James’ Park.
Moyes’ side have won their last two away matches against Newcastle, including that dramatic 3-2 victory in their most recent meeting last season when Barry netted an 83rd-minute winner.
Newcastle vs Everton Prediction
Everton’s EFL Cup victory and recent good form against Newcastle does them no favours with the Opta supercomputer, who saw the hosts take all three points in 45.9% of the 10,000 pre-match simulations.
Moyes’ side, meanwhile, were given a 27.4% chance of victory, and a draw accounted for the remaining 26.7%.
