Alshon Jeffery Teases That He’ll Retire As a Bear ‘Soon’ In Interview With Kay Adams ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

It sounds like Alshon Jeffery is set to retire as a Chicago Bear.

Jeffery hasn’t suited up for a team since the 2020 NFL season. And while there is a non-zero chance that Jeffery, 36, could give a team something at wide receiver, the reality is that he is better off retired. That said, Kay Adams of the Up & Adams Show notes that Jeffery has yet to file his retirement paperwork with the league. Ultimately, that led to this conversation:

?BREAKING NEWS ? Alshon Jeffery will retire as a CHICAGO BEAR and "it’s coming soon" ? @AlshonJeffery_1 | @heykayadams | @ChicagoBears t.co/svb0DO4uTN

— Up & Adams (@UpAndAdamsShow) October 30, 2026

This exchange stopped me from continuing my regularly scheduled doomscrolling:

Kay Adams: “Where’s the retirement paperwork?”

Alshon Jeffery: “It’s coming soon, it’s coming soon.”

Adams: “If you were to sign a one-day contract with a team, I’m going to put it to you straight — is it Bears or Eagles?”

Jeffery: “I mean, I’ve definitely got to go with the team I started with.”

Soon? How soon? We’ve got a lot on our plate, Alshon! But we’ll gladly add retirement celebration shenanigans to our to-do list once you make it officially official.

Alshon Jeffery Wants to Retire As a Bear

For Bears fans of a certain age, the idea of Alshon Jeffery signing a one-day contract with the team is borderline unfathomable. And since I know our audience has a variety of age groups, I’ll put you on game.

Things didn’t end well between Jeffery and the Bears. There were contentious contract negotiations, a Franchise Tag, and ultimately, a departure after the 2016 season. Not only did Jeffery leave for the Philadelphia Eagles as a free agent, but he also took a shot at the Bears before facing them in January 2019. It was an awkward time to be a Bears fan who enjoyed watching Jeffery play for the Bears from 2012 to 2016.

But maybe we should’ve seen this face turn coming.

Before the Bears-Eagles game on Monday Night Football in Week 3, Jeffery cleared the air and shared what happened at the end of his run in Chicago:

“I never wanted to leave Chicago. Which is unfortunate. I thought I would be a Bear forever. My agent at the time, we tried to make it with negotiations. I would’ve took less, but I just needed a few other things in the contract. I feel like they just, at the time, they probably felt it was in their best interest to let me see what else was out there.”

For what it’s worth, Jeffery made the most of his time with the Eagles. He caught 57 passes for 789 receiving yards and nine touchdowns for Philly’s Super Bowl-winning team. He signed a lucrative contract, and that’s the end of that. Well, it was until Jeffery opened up about his departure … and then gushed about current Bears quarterback Caleb Williams.

“I feel like the sky’s the limit for him. Like, he hasn’t even reached his peak,” Jeffery said. “I feel like in year four or five, he’s gonna really have the league on fire. But right now, what he’s doing — him and Ben and the chemistry, the team — I feel like he’s relentless. He’s just even-keeled. He doesn’t really care what you’re saying about me, what the score is. I believe I can win. Give me that ball; let me make the play like, we’re in Chicago, like Michael Jordan.”

If Alshon Jeffery was trying to get back into the good graces of the folks at Halas Hall, aligning himself with Caleb Williams is a smart way to go about it. And hey, having a solid playing career with the team helps his cause.

A second-round pick (45th overall) by then-GM Phil Emery (I gotta give credit where it’s due!) in the 2012 NFL Draft, Jeffery had more good times than bad with the Bears.

Jeffery played 63 games for the Bears from 2012 to 2016. The University of South Carolina product was a Pro Bowler in 2013, which was also the season he won the Pro Football Writers of America Most Improved Player award. It was well-deserved hardware for Jeffery, who went from 24 catches, 367 yards, and 3 touchdowns as a rookie to 89 catches, 1,421 receiving yards, and 7 touchdowns as a second-year player. Jeffery added a second 1,000-yard receiving season in 2014, catching 85 passes, racking up 1,133 receiving yards, and scoring a career-best 10 touchdowns.

In addition to his statistical achievements with the Bears, Jeffery is also remembered fondly for making some of the sickest catches you’ll see. As you might expect, many of them (like the one below) lead to incredible photography. This pic is sick:

Whenever Alshon Jeffery’s retirement becomes officially official, we’ll have a more in-depth post reflecting on his career. Jeffery is certainly deserving of it. But we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. After all, there is another Jeffery who arrived in Chicago this week and has our attention.
