FAIRPORT, N.Y. — Lollypop Farm is collecting pet food donations to give to pet owners in need ahead of the Thanksgiving season.
The shelter’s pet food pantry is collecting donations of dry or canned dog and cat food, in addition to treats. Over the past two years, the pantry has given out more than 100,000 pounds of food and supplies across the area. However, Lollypop Farm leaders say the pantry’s current supplies are running low.
People can drop off donations inside the main lobby of Lollypop Farm’s campus at 99 Victor Road in Fairport. You can also donate online through Lollypop Farm’s wish list.
According to PetSmart Charities, nearly 83% of pet owners say they would feed their pets before themselves. Alice Calabrese, president and CEO of Lollypop Farm, said food insecurity often leaves families with impossible choices. Here’s the statement she shared:
“Food insecurity puts many within our community in the heartbreaking position of making impossible choices, including whether they can afford to feed their beloved pets or even put food on their own tables. For some, the lack of resources can mean having to surrender a cherished companion simply because they can no longer afford to care for them. Lollypop Farm’s Pet Pantry helps reduce that burden, providing critical support to families so they can keep their pets healthy, fed, and at home where they belong. This program is made possible by the generosity of our community.”
