What a day. Between Ryan Poles’ blockbuster trade for Jeffery Simmons and the Bears earlier, unpacking it all, and the newest—and perhaps most noteworthy in some time—Bears stadium news, the keys have been clacking all day at BN Bears. We were so deep in it, I almost forgot we were going to get injury reports and transactions this afternoon. Luis will have you covered on the injury report (a fairly pleasant one, in my opinion), but we’ll start today’s Bits with the transaction out of Halas Hall, outside of the Simmons trade.
The Bears communications department announced this afternoon that the team has waived defensive lineman Jamree Kromah and signed defensive back Josh Butler to the team’s practice squad. Kromah was a nice training camp story but has played only two games this season, both during the Montez Sweat suspension. He logged 27 snaps and made two tackles against the Patriots last week. Of course, if he goes unclaimed on waivers, the Bears could re-sign him to their practice squad, which, if it works out, would probably be something they’d be interested in, given how defensive coordinator Dennis Allen spoke about him during camp. Allen complimented Kromah’s development, and he even flashed in the preseason. Maybe he’ll end up on a future Bears Preseason Legends list. Probably not. But you get the point. I wrote about why the cost makes sense, both now and for the foreseeable future this afternoon, and then I saw a great way to sum it up by ESPN’s Kevin Clark: “The point of football is to win the Super Bowl. I love process, I love trade value, I love the long game. Terrific things. But the point of the sport is to get a ring whenever you can, and everything short of that is functionally useless. The Bears get it.” Kevin is spot on. The goal is to win the Super Bowl. Super Bowl teams strike while the iron is hot. Ryan Poles did that today. Let’s enjoy the ride. It’s shaping up to be a fun one. ICYMI: Titans GM Mike Borganzi met with the media today to discuss the Simmons deal, and he said that everything between the two sides began last night between him and Poles. The two worked together in Kansas City, so they have plenty of familiarity. Speaking of Poles’ time in Kansas City:Ryan Poles came from KC. — TJ Starman (@TJStarman) October 29, 2026 If the Bears are trading premium draft capital, they’ll need guys they invested in to maximize the return. After a rocky start to the season, 2026 third-rounder Sam Roush knows he’ll have to step up his game with tight end Cole Kmet sidelined for the rest of the season. Shaw Local’s Michael Dwojak has a write-up on Roush, where Roush says the past few weeks have been trending upward for him: “I’ll have to step up in the coming weeks, and I feel confident in my ability to do that,” Roush said. “I’m happy with the way I’m progressing through the season. I think the last couple of weeks have gone really well and feel like I’m really starting to get comfortable with the operation and the offense and everything that goes with it.” Roush’s first test and new role in the offense comes on Monday in Seattle. In the meantime, here’s Dwojak’s story:Chicago Bears rookie tight end Sam Roush knows he didn't have a good start to his career. But here's why the rookie believes his play can improve as he steps in for an injured Cole Kmet."I think the last couple weeks have gone really well and feel like I’m really starting to…
