HGTV star Erin Napier is revealing she’s envious of her husband and Home Town co-star, Ben Napier‘s ability to make himself readily available for others, even strangers.
During a joint appearance on the October 27 episode of Talk To Me: The Debra Fileta Podcast, hosted by licensed professional counselor Debra Fileta, Erin explained that Ben had caught her eye while they were both students at Jones County Junior College in Mississippi. She said that she “would see Ben in the student union,” where “he would look for the person who was eating alone, and he would go sit with him.” She explained this had quite an impact on her as she struggled with making friends in elementary school.
“I would see him, and he would sit with someone who was alone always. He would leave his friends to go sit with that person until they were done eating,” said Erin, who wed Ben in 2008 after nearly four years of dating. “I would see him taking his friends to have a good time, but he’s never drank before. He was just always very sober. He was always paying attention. He had a maturity that was beyond 21 years, even though he was still there to like have a good time.”
Fileta then observed that Erin “recognized his heart for others, his integrity, his focus on what other people needed.” Erin agreed and stated that she doesn’t share that trait.
“It’s not for me at all. And I’m jealous of that about him,” said Erin.
In a joint 2025 People magazine interview, Erin shared that her husband has the same amount of focus, care, and attention toward her and their two daughters, Mae, 5, and Helen, 8. She said Ben loves to treat their family to experiences he knows will “delight” them.
“We can’t just have dinner. We’re going to have dinner outside. We’re going to light a candle that smells like summertime, and we’re going to listen to Sam Cooke,” said Erin, who began starring on Home Town with Ben in 2016.
She went on to say that her husband “want[s] everyone to have a good time and feel special.”
“If they’re in your presence, you want them to feel special and good,” said Erin to her husband.
