Perez commits to Cadillac until 2029 in major F1 boost ...Middle East

Sport by : (F1 News) -

Sergio Perez is going nowhere. Cadillac has secured the services of its experienced Mexican driver until at least 2029, handing its ambitious Formula 1 project a major dose of continuity as it looks to climb the grid.

The American outfit has extended Perez’s contract by a further three seasons, reaffirming its faith in the six-time Grand Prix winner as it builds its operation from the ground up.

Having been left without a seat following his Red Bull departure, Perez returned to the grid for Cadillac’s debut campaign in 2026. The 36-year-old has since established himself as a key figure in the team’s development, working closely with CEO Dan Towriss and General Motors chief Mark Reuss.

And with the project’s long-term vision apparently matching his own ambitions, Perez is ready to keep building.

“Joining Cadillac Formula 1 Team from day one was a project I truly believed in, and extending my commitment feels like a natural continuation of this chapter,” said Perez.

“Building a Formula 1 team from the ground up takes time, relentless work and patience, but the progress we are making together is incredibly rewarding. There is still a lot of work ahead of us and I am fully committed for the next three years.

“I want to thank Dan, Mark, and everyone at TWG Motorsports and General Motors for the opportunity to build on what we have started together. To every member of this special team, at the track, in the US, the UK, and our fans, thank you for your support and trust. I won’t let you down. Let’s keep pushing."

Cadillac backs experience for its long game

For Cadillac, keeping Perez aboard means retaining a driver who brings substantial experience from his years at Racing Point and Red Bull, including six Grand Prix victories.

Towriss believes that stability will be crucial as the team moves beyond its inaugural season and focuses on becoming a regular points contender.

"Building a competitive team in F1 is a long-term journey, and securing Checo’s talent and leadership gives us the continuity and commitment we need to build on the strong foundation established in our first year,” he said.

"Together, we are focused on the next phase of our journey, pushing the team forward and making progress up the grid.”

The announcement also arrives at a particularly fitting moment. Perez is preparing for his 300th Grand Prix start at this weekend’s Mexican Grand Prix, where he will celebrate the milestone with a show run through the streets of Mexico City.

Who will join Perez in 2027?

While Perez’s future is now settled, Cadillac’s second seat remains a subject of intrigue.

Valtteri Bottas claims that he holds a valid contract for 2027, but Cadillac appears to be weighing its options given the Finn’s challenging campaign with the team.

American driver Colton Herta is another possibility, with Cadillac investing heavily in his preparation for a potential F1 debut.

For Perez, at least, there is no uncertainty. Cadillac has made its commitment, and the Mexican now has several seasons to help turn the American newcomer’s ambitions into reality.
