Reba McEntire honors her longtime friend, the late Dolly Parton, in a new episode of her Happy’s Place TV series.
The country icons met in 1977 at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville and enjoyed a close friendship for nearly 50 years. In 2005, near Valentine’s Day, Parton appeared as a guest on McEntire’s Reba TV series, and surprised each crew member with a candy heart.
“That’s the type of person she was,” McEntire told USA Today. “I never have met a person that says, ‘I don’t like Dolly Parton.’ Everybody loves her worldwide and was touched by her passing.”
McEntire and Parton performed together many times, including in November 2006, when Dolly surprised her friend on the CMT Giants TV show and joined her on stage for an impromptu live duet of Reba’s 1984 hit song “How Blue.”
Parton died on August 25, 2026, at age 80. McEntire remembered her in a touching Instagram post.
“Dolly, thank you for all the wonderful things you did for us here on earth,” she wrote, captioning a post featuring several photos of them together over the years. “Your love, your music, and you gave so much with your huge, huge heart. There will never ever be another you. We will remember and cherish every memory and every note you ever played and sang.”
She closed her post with a reference to one of Parton’s classic songs.
“I will always love you, Reba.”
Three weeks later, McEntire paid tribute to the 9 to 5 star on the Emmy Awards, performing her late friend’s autobiographical 1983 song “Appalachian Memories.”
“I felt Dolly with me on the stage. I really did,” the “Fancy” singer said. “I wasn’t nervous, even though I knew it was going to be a very heavy, touching moment.”
During an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show on Wednesday, October 21, McEntire had fond memories of the Grammy and Emmy winner.
“I loved the way Dolly carried herself with confidence and poise,” McEntire told host Jennifer Hudson. “She could cut a joke in a heartbeat, and she would make sure that everybody felt comfortable in her presence.”
Reba’s new tribute to Parton will be featured in the Happy’s Place “Skeletons in the Closet” episode airing Friday, October 30, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. ET on NBC.
