This week, Aaron welcomes UNC public policy professor Anna Krome-Lukens, whose new book examines the troubling history of North Carolina’s notorious eugenics program – a program that also saw manifestations in many other states as well.
The book is “Strong State, Weak Links: Eugenics and the Southern Politics of Welfare,” out now from UNC Press.
Many of us are at least somewhat familiar with North Carolina’s eugenics program, which lasted into the 1970s – but Krome-Lukens adds an additional insight, exploring how that program was grounded in a larger ideology that also pervaded many other aspects of human life and society and public policy as well.
