I don’t know how you spent your Bears-less Sunday, but I had a good day. I watched the Blackhawks, kept up with NFL scores in the background, worked on this morning’s trade targets story, and even threw some steaks on the grill. And if you enjoyed Sunday, we get to do it again next weekend, with the Bears playing on Monday Night Football.

Last night’s SNF game gave us a look at the Seahawks before next week’s matchup with them in Seattle, and they looked pretty good. The defense looked like the one that helped them win a Super Bowl last season, shutting down Kenneth Walker III, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba is just different. I’m legitimately worried about what he will do to Chicago’s secondary next week. Take the over on whatever his receiving-yard total is next week. Even with Zach Charbonnet still sidelined as he works his way back from last year’s ACL injury and Jadarian Price on injured reserve with a chest injury, Seattle rushed the ball well last night, with Emanuel Wilson running for 100 yards on 21 carries and scoring on a 21-yard rushing touchdown. We’ll get into the matchup more as the week goes on, but this will easily be the Bears’ toughest game of the regular season and a good litmus test for January. For the next two weeks, it’ll be fair to wonder whether a new player will wear a Bears uniform in their matchup with Seattle next Monday and their meeting with the Buccaneers the following Sunday evening. Especially if NFL insider Jordan Schultz’s reporting today comes to fruition: Speaking with Ryan Clark on The Pivot today, Schultz said the Bears and 49ers are the two teams he’s watching to be the most active ahead of what he’s forecasting to be an active deadline, that could feature as many as 20 trades, with Chicago and San Francisco both “connected to several defensive players, including rushers, Josh Sweat, Khalil Mack, and DeForest Buckner, along with some names who aren’t necessarily on the trade block.” I know it’s the easy connection to make, but there have been a lot of Bears-Mack mentions this week. Like, a lot. Makes you, at least, wonder. Luis has more on Schultz’s comments today, and the Bears being mentioned as a team to watch ahead of the deadline. MORE: Another NFL Insider Says Bears Will Be Aggressive at the Trade Deadline

I’ve had a question about the deadline that I’ve played out in my head a few times, and it’s this: What are you comfortable with the Bears giving up at the deadline? Right now, we can easily say Chicago needs multiple upgrades on defense. They need help on the defensive line. They probably need a cornerback, too. And of course, who they acquire comes into play when trying to answer that question, but I guess I’m going back and forth on how far in should Ryan Poles and the Bears push their chips in? If they can acquire two starters under control beyond this year, or extend them, would it be worth the price? That would likely leave Chicago without premium draft capital beyond day one. There’s the argument for sustainability, long-term. Of course. There’s also the argument that the Bears have a quarterback playing some of the best football in the league, on a rookie deal, and an offense that can compete with any team in the league, right now. The defense isn’t good enough to win a Super Bowl this year, but if they add two starting (or better) caliber players between now and November 10, they could be. If that’s the case (it has to be the intent if Poles and Co. are truly buyers), then are you comfortable with going all in for a Super Bowl run this year? I think I’d be fine with that, personally. I’m sure some folks won’t be. I guess what I would say to them is, 1) nothing is guaranteed beyond today in this league, and 2) if you don’t want the Bears to invest premium capital in players who can help them win a Super Bowl this season, you can’t be disappointed in January when the season ends short of playing for one. Bears defensive end Shemar Turner hasn't played a lot of football in the last year. Here are some snaps that stood out in the Week 7 win over the Patriots. My latest for @BearsRTB t.co/tNAKkHSwd4
