Pre-Gamin’: Bulls at Celtics (6:30 PM CT) – Projected Lineups, How to Watch, More ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

After splitting their two winnable back-to-back weekend games against a pair of likely lottery teams, the Milwaukee Bucks and the Washington Wizards, our Chicago Bulls will hit the road today for the first of two games against Jayson Tatum’s post-Jaylen Brown Boston Celtics this week.

Sans the now-Philadelphia 76ers All-NBA swingman, Boston is a bit more vulnerable now in an otherwise-improved Eastern Conference. In addition to an aging Paul George and some draft equity, the Celtics did add center Mitchell Robinson in free agency. The team is otherwise hoping for further recovery from Tatum following an Achilles tendon tear — plus the internal growth of young pieces like Jordan Walsh and Hugo Gonzalez — to help it make up the talent deficit left by Brown’s absence.

Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum controls the ball against Chicago Bulls forward Matas Buzelis.

What To Watch For

The Bulls’ starting lineup may not be representative of the team’s five best players. Josh Giddey has apparently been playing through a secret wrist injury almost all month, and perhaps that’s the culprit behind his relative tenuousness as a scorer. The $100 million point guard hasn’t meshed well with the run-and-gun offensive approach favored by head coach Tiago Splitter and athletic rookie forward Caleb Wilson. Splitter has often closed with reserve guard Tre Jones playing over Giddey. Paul George looked like his prime self on offense in the Celtics’ come-from-behind season opener loss to the Detroit Pistons last week, scoring 38 points on 12-of-21 shooting from the floor (7-of-12 from deep) and 7-of-8 shooting from the foul line, seven rebounds, five steals (!), and three assists, while notching a +9 plus-minus. But those numbers don’t tell the full story. He was wide open because Tatum was constantly seeing double teams, and in his dotage isn’t considered as much of an athletic threat as Brown had been. He came back down to earth on Friday, chipping in a more Philadelphia-era George output of 15 points on 6-of-15 shooting from the floor (3-of-7 from long range), plus seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals. George remains a committed defender, even at age 37, but he’s not the superstar scorer he once was. Seeing how he performs against the more athletic Bulls forwards (he’ll likely start out on Matas Buzelis, with Tatum covering Wilson) could serve as a fascinating barometer for his play against a more talented opponent in the playoffs. Mitchell Robinson’s aggressive defense around the rim has been a boon for head coach Joe Mazzulla. His counting stats don’t yet pop off the page, but his impact in deterring even All-Star centers on the block should not be understated.

— Boston Celtics (@celtics) October 25, 2026 Across 20.3 minutes a night, Robinson has been averaging a scant 4.0 points on 66.7 percent field goal shooting, plus 3.5 boards (2.0 defensive), 1.5 assists, and 1.5 blocks a night. Against a Bulls team missing its best lob threat in center Nicolas Claxton — and with Zach Collins playing on a minutes limit and sitting out back-to-backs — Robinson might be able to pad his stats. Wilson seems to be developing quarter-over-quarter. A middling first half against Washington on Saturday was followed by a stupendous final quarter-and-a-half. He looked extremely tenuous in that opening Toronto Raptors loss, setting a new record in rookie debut ignominy with a -45 plus-minus. His efficiency inside the 3-point arc and a growing willingness to break down defenses while getting to the rim have spiked. Now, playing against the best team he’s faced since Kawhi and co., can Wilson stay motivated?
