The Denver Broncos have a get-right game opportunity against the Arizona Cardinals this week.
The Cards just beat the reeling LA Rams 18-16, but Arizona’s defense is one of the worst in the NFL.
That means Denver’s floundering offense should be able to gain yards and put points on the board this weekend.

The Broncos offensive issues have been well-publicized.
They beat the Seattle Seahawks last week, but the offense could only gain 168 yards. That was their lowest output offensively since John Elway’s first start in 1983.
It was still a decent game plan by Sean Payton because he had Bo Nix throwing the ball quicker, the Broncos were more aggressive, and then they limited mistake opportunities in the second half.
On their first scoring drive, the Broncos converted a 4th-and-3. That was aggressive play-calling. So was the deep shot to Courtland Sutton in the end zone on their second scoring drive. And at halftime, Nix’s 2.54 seconds to throw was the fastest in his career. The first half went great.
Still, when it was all said and done, 168 yards wasn’t enough. And they had to go into overtime to win the game. Which was won by the defense and the three turnovers they forced.
This week though, they face the terrible Arizona Cardinals defense who is giving up 29.7 points per game. That’s second-worst in the NFL. In four straight weeks, they gave up 31-plus points, including 45 points to the sometimes explosive Detroit Lions in Week 5.
Simply, this is a defense you can score on.
Keep in mind that last week they allowed the LA Rams to score only 16 points and forced a fumble as well.
Part of that was poor execution by Sean McVay’s team. Part of it was better defensive play by Arizona.
So, which defense shows up on Sunday will be important. But it’s more likely the bad defensive play presents itself again this week since they’ve allowed 31 points or more in four-of-six games to this point.
Cardinals are a pass funnel defense
According to FTN Fantasy, Arizona is the second-worst pass funnel defense.
What is a pass funnel defense? It simply means the Cards are terrible against the pass (30th in DVOA) and a decent run defense (15th).
Bo Nix and the Broncos need to feast this Sunday, simple as that.
Last week, the Broncos rarely threw it deep. This week, they have to unlock both Courtland Sutton and Jaylen Waddle on passes over 10 and hopefully over 20 yards as well.
Through six weeks, Sutton has a mere five receptions over 10 yards and one of 20-plus, while Waddle has seven and three, respectively. The two combined for 48 catches of 10 or more yards last year. And they had 31 catches of 20-plus yards together.
That means they’re on pace for only 34 10-yard catches and only 11 20-plus yard catches this year.
The simple truth of the Broncos offense is they’re lacking explosive or chunk plays and have to find ways to manufacture more of them.
The good news is the Cardinals give up 6.3 explosive plays per game; and equal 19 runs and 19 passes.
If Bo Nix can hit Sutton and/or Waddle — or even Troy Franklin or Marvin Mims — on multiple explosive plays, it will do two things. One, it will almost certainly mean the Broncos winning the game on Sunday afternoon. And two, it could help Nix finally bust out of this season-long slump he’s been in.
To this point in the season, Arizona is 22nd in passing defense and they’re 31st in passing touchdowns allowed with 17, or nearly three per game.
For Nix, Sutton, and Waddle this game presents a get-right opportunity. A game that should get them going in the right direction with the huge AFC West battle vs. the Chiefs next weekend.
Denver (4-2) plays in Arizona vs. the Cardinals (2-4) on Sunday, Oct. 25 with a 2:05 p.m. MT kickoff. The game will be televised on CBS and Paramount+.
