Peter Hillary, whose father made history alongside Tenzing Norgay when the pair became the first climbers confirmed to reach the summit of Mount Everest in 1953, will join travelers on three National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions voyages to Alaska and Antarctica in 2027.

An accomplished explorer in his own right, Peter Hillary has participated in more than 50 mountaineering expeditions, including five on Everest. He’s also completed the Seven Summits and skied to the South Pole.

During the expeditions, Hillary will share stories and lessons from his lifetime of exploration through onboard conversations. Guests will also have opportunities to interact with him throughout their voyages.
In May 2027, Hillary will participate in two different National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions itineraries. In the Alaska’s Inside Passage and Hubbard Glacier expedition, guests will explore Southeast Alaska, from secluded coves and mist-filled fjords to the lush temperate rainforest, with opportunities to see brown bears and bald eagles before reaching the towering Hubbard Glacier. Also in May, the Alaska’s Inside Passage, Endicott Arm and Prince Rupert itinerary offers guests the opportunity to travel through the glacier-carved landscapes of Alaska and British Columbia, exploring fjords, wildlife-rich waters and communities along the route.

In December 2027, Hillary will join the Antarctica Direct: Sail and Fly the Drake Passage itinerary aboard the National Geographic Explorer. Guests will sail across the Drake Passage in one direction and fly back, with opportunities to spot whales and icebergs and explore Antarctica by Zodiac, kayak and on foot.
The expeditions come as the story of Peter Hillary’s father and Tenzing Norgay is reaching a new generation through Tenzing, which premiered on Apple TV on Oct. 16. The film stars Tom Hiddleston as Sir Edmund Hillary and Genden Phuntsok as Tenzing Norgay, revisiting the historic 1953 ascent of Mount Everest that made both men legends of exploration.
