For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Lyra Moran, a Colorado high school state finalist in diving, has announced her verbal commitment to compete for the University of Utah beginning in the fall of 2027.
“I chose to become a Ute because I loved the school, the scenery, and the team. Utah has so many great things to offer and I am so excited to join the swim and dive team. Go Utes!”
Moran is a senior at Chatfield High School in Littleton, Colorado, where she has been a member of the swimming and diving team since her sophomore year. Moran shared the pool with her brother Brecken for one year, who also dove for Chatfield before graduating in 2025. She currently trains with Mile High Dive Club, and she has competed internationally in both individual and synchronized diving.
Moran qualified for the Colorado state championships two years in a row. At the 2025 CHSAA (Colorado High School Activities Association) Girls 5A State Championship, she placed 5th in the 1-meter diving event, scoring 463.65 points across 11 dives. At the 2026 iteration of the competition, Moran took 4th on the 1-meter with a score of 452.20 points for 11 dives.
Moran’s highest score while diving for Chatfield High School came at the 2026 Jeffco Girls League Championships in February, when she won the 1-meter event with a score of 511.80 points across 11 dives.
On the international circuit, Moran competed at the 2025 Eindhoven Diving Cup in the Netherlands. She brought home a silver medal alongside teammate Elise Koehler in the girls’ 3-meter synchro event, and she finished 15th in the girls’ 3-meter event and 19th in the girls’ 1-meter event.
A Division I program in the Big 12 Conference, Utah’s women’s team placed 7th at last season’s conference championships. Utah boasts a strong diving program, with three women landing in the ‘A’ final of the 1-meter event and one woman landing in the ‘A’ final of the 3-meter event at the 2026 Big 12 Championships. The Utes sent only two athletes to compete at the 2026 NCAA Division I Championships in March, both divers: then-senior Kathryn Grant and then-sophomore Callie Eaglestone.
Moran will join a formidable diving group next season, and with another Utah diver, Emilia Nilsson Garip, set to graduate at the end of this season, Moran should be a strong contributor and help fill the gaps left behind.
Outside of the pool, Moran was previously a gymnast and loves snorkeling and hiking. She will be the second member of her family to pursue diving at the collegiate level, as her brother Brecken Moran is a sophomore at the University of Nebraska, Omaha.
Currently set to join Moran in Utah’s class of 2031 are Sophia Friestedt, Rainie Moran, Ella Butcher, Macy Malinski, Riley Hollingsworth, Makenna Sherman and Kate Wesche.
