ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A Frost Advisory is in effect for Monroe, Wayne and northern Cayuga tonight through 9am Monday morning. Counties further west are less likely to see significant frost due to a southwesterly wind mixing surface air northeast of Lake Erie and making conditions less favorable for widespread frost. Regardless, this is expected to be a patchy frost for the advisory area as temperatures drop into the upper-30s and low-40s across Western New York. Winds will persist out of the southwest between 5 and 10 mph.
Surface high pressure and a large upper-level ridge that will be stretching across the central and eastern United States at the beginning of the week will bring Monday’s high temperatures above average. Highs for most will reach into the upper-60s with a forecasted high of 67 degrees for Rochester. This surface high pressure and upper-level pattern will support very sunny, clear skies with only a light breeze out of the west/southwest between 10 to 15 mph. Monday night should bring temperatures close to average with overnight lows forecasted in the low to mid 40s.
The rest of the week is expected to bring unusually dry and quiet weather. We will keep an eye on a coastal low developing off the Carolina coast. However, upper-level winds will likely pull this low off to the northeast and over the northern Mid Atlantic, while surface high pressure over the Northeast blocks this coastal low from progressing west and inland. It is worth mentioning this coastal low will stall through this week off the east coast and bring down a cool northeasterly wind into our region. This, paired with a couple dry cold fronts descending from Ontario, will likely bring our temperatures down into the mid to upper 50s a few days this coming week.
