When comparing results across all 50 states, a solid mix of Chick-fil-A menu items rightfully make up the top of the rankings. But what might shock you is that neither the Grilled Chicken Sandwich, Spicy Chicken Sandwich nor the Fried Chicken sandwich even cracks the top 3. The most-searched national favorite? Waffle Fries, topping the charts across 11 states, including Alabama, Arizona, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.

Adding to the list of shocking results, Chick-fil-A’s Mac & Cheese came in second, ranking first in eight states, including Indiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, Colorado, Louisiana and North Carolina. The popular side dish has always had somewhat of a cult following among regulars, who have even come up with DIY creations combining the mac & cheese with fried chicken and the chain’s Zesty Buffalo sauce for a buffalo chicken mac-and-cheese-style bowl.
And speaking of sauces, the chain’s namesake Chick-fil-A Sauce turned up as the most searched sauce in a whopping 31 states, putting it well above every other item in the study. Polynesian and Zesty Buffalo tied for second with five states each, followed by Sweet & Spicy Sriracha in four states. Garden Herb Ranch, however, turned out to be the biggest outlier, coming out on top in Kansas alone.
These results make it pretty obvious why Chick-fil-A bottled its signature sauce and sold it in grocery stores across the country. As for the rest of the menu items highlighted in the study, if only we could get those at our local grocery store, too.
