As the royal rift between Prince William and his younger brother Prince Harry has dragged on for years now, UK experts agree that it’s up to the future king to make amends.
“It feels like the ball’s in William’s court,” Victoria Ward, senior royal reporter and correspondent for The Telegraph, said in a clip of the documentary William & Harry: Can They Heal The Rift? “I think Harry has done quite a lot of interviews and made clear that he would love reconciliation with his family.”
View this post on InstagramStill, Ward acknowledged that there’s been a “huge betrayal” by Harry, including allegations made in his memoir, Spare, as well as in a revealing Netflix documentary he sat down for with his wife, Meghan Markle, claiming how poorly they were treated by his older brother and the rest of the royal family. Harry has also given several interviews reiterating claims of manipulation and biased treatment from his family.
“Ultimately it’s going to come down to whether William can manage to put all of this betrayal and hurt behind him and somehow be the bigger man and say, ‘Okay, let’s meet up, let’s have a chat,'” she added.

Fellow commentator and Royal Editor for ITV News, Chris Ship, agreed with Ward, saying William should initiate the reconciliation because he will one day be king.
“He is the heir to the throne, so future king,” he said. “He’s the older brother. He’s going to be the head of the Church of England. That’s why I agree with you that the ball is very much in his court.”
However, Ship noted that Harry and Markle could be “less noisy” to help ease the family’s path forward.
“I think what Harry needs to do is to stay quiet about a lot of things,” he said. “If Harry and Meghan were just a little bit less noisy, no more interviews and things…William might find a way to say, you know what, ‘We are brothers.'”

For his part, Harry may have taken the first step to repair their relationship when we relocated his family back to the UK after he and Markle stepped down from royal duties and spent six years in California.
While the brothers have yet to meet face to face since Harry’s move, the Sussexes have been establishing new roots in the Cotswolds, north of London. Recently, it was reported that the couple won’t apologize to William and his wife, Kate Middleton, so the experts’ thoughts may ring true after all.
