Junior Nationals qualifier Katie Bookwalter has announced her verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Cincinnati beginning in the fall of 2027. She publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
I’m thrilled and grateful to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Cincinnati! I would like to thank my parents, sister, family, friends, and teammates who have supported me throughout the years. Special thanks to Coach Zach and Coach Marian for believing in me and helping me become the swimmer I am today. I would also like to thank Coach Joey and the rest of the Bearcats staff for this amazing opportunity. Go Bearcats!
A senior at Seneca Valley Senior High School in Harmony, Pennsylvania, Bookwalter trains and competes year-round with Team Pittsburgh Elite Aquatics, where she specializes in breaststroke. She is ranked #4 in Pennsylvania for the high school class of 2031 and is a two-time Scholastic All-American. She is coming off a breakthrough 2025-26 season in which she dropped more than two and a half seconds in the 200 breast and just over half a second in the 100 breast.
Bookwalter swam her current best in the 100 breast at the Speedo Winter Junior Championships – East in December, her first year competing at the meet. She finished 38th in the 200 breast (2:18.60, then a PB) and 40th in the 100 breast (1:03.69). She went on to swim her current career best of 2:18.39 in the 200 breast at the AMS Age Group Championships in early March, where she also posted her second-fastest 100 breast ever, 1:04.03.
Beyond the short course pool, Bookwalter swam 32.81 and 1:10.79 in the long course meter (LCM) 50 and 100 breast, which qualified her for Summer Junior Nationals in July. There, she placed sixth in the 200 breast (2:33.91, after a PB of 2:33.31 in prelims), eighth in the 100 breast and 21st in the 50 breast.

To earn a second swim at the meet, times of 1:03.08/2:17.21 were needed in the 100/200 breast, putting Bookwalter just outside the cutoffs, though she still has nearly two full seasons of training to go before linnig up at her first conference meet.
