Hello Kitty has been absent from the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade since 2017, but if you’ve missed seeing that iconic red bow and cute yellow nose float over the streets of New York City, you’re in luck.
In 2026, Hello Kitty will return to the parade route, floating as an all-new balloon in the 100th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The giant character balloon will feature Hello Kitty holding a vibrant red apple, a nod to NYC’s nickname, “The Big Apple.”

According to an image released by Sanrio, this year’s Hello Kitty balloon measures 24.8 feet wide, 33.5 feet long, and 33.6 feet high—or, as the brand puts it, 107 apples tall.
This marks the third Hello Kitty balloon design to appear in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. From 2007 through 2011, Super Cute Hello Kitty floated through New York City in a superhero-style outfit, complete with a cape. From 2012 through 2017, the parade featured Retro Airplane Hello Kitty, which depicted Hello Kitty as a pilot and flew in six parades.
To celebrate Hello Kitty’s return to the Big Apple, Sanrio and Macy’s have teamed up to create a 23-piece Hello Kitty and Friends collection, sold in select Macy’s stores nationwide and on Macys.com. The collection, which includes apparel, accessories, and home goods, features balloon-style artwork created exclusively for Macy’s. Brands like Loungefly, Kidrobot, and Blue Sky Clayworks will have items in the line, according to a Sanrio press release.
At present, a few items from the collection are available at Macys.com, including holiday ornaments and enamel pins featuring the Hello Kitty balloon and a plush bag charm of Hello Kitty holding her red apple. More items are expected to become available online, and the collection will begin arriving in select Macy’s stores on Oct. 15, including the Macy’s Herald Square flagship store in New York.
The 100th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade airs Thursday, Nov. 26, starting at 8:30 a.m. in all time zones on NBC and Peacock.
