'Proud' Lawson strengthened RB case with Singapore charge ...Middle East

Sport by : (F1 News) -

Liam Lawson doesn’t yet know where he will be racing next season, but he is certainly giving Racing Bulls plenty to think about thanks to his strong results of late.

A productive Singapore Grand Prix weekend delivered points in both the Sprint and Sunday's race, with the Kiwi emerging from Marina Bay with renewed confidence and a timely reminder of what he can continue to bring to his RB team.

Lawson collected 10 points across the two events, navigating a chaotic Sprint and then producing a composed Grand Prix performance to secure seventh place.

With Racing Bulls expected to soon decide its 2027 driver line-up, the 24-year-old could hardly have picked a better time to put together another convincing weekend.

“Very happy and very proud of the team,” Lawson summarised. “It’s been a pretty intense few weeks and as a team we’ve scored in all three races.

“Personally, I probably should’ve scored in all three as well but it’s great to have the last few weekends go to plan. To have points in both the Sprint and race, for us, is great so I’m very happy.”

Delivering when it matters

Lawson's Singapore weekend was built on consistency and opportunism. Starting eighth in Saturday's Sprint, he kept his nose clean through the tricky wet-dry conditions and narrowly avoided the spinning McLarens on the final lap to grab fifth.

He followed that up with another Q3 appearance before making several important overtakes in Sunday's Grand Prix. Just as crucially, he held off the challenges of Audi's Nico Hulkenberg and Mercedes' George Russell to bring home P7 and complete a valuable double points-scoring weekend.

For a team fighting to maintain its position in the Constructors' Championship, those performances matter. They also strengthen Lawson's argument at a time when his future remains uncertain.

Asked whether his recent form would help secure his seat for next season, however, Lawson was not about to assume anything.

“You tell me! It’s obviously normal at this point of the year, but right now I’m just focused on trying to score each weekend and try to keep extending,” he said.

Racing Bulls team principal Alan Permane has confirmed that a decision on the team's 2027 line-up will be made “in the coming weeks”. Formula 2 prospect Nikola Tsolov has emerged as a contender for a seat with the team, while rookie Arvid Lindblad remains in the frame after scoring 38 points in his debut campaign.

Lindblad's recent struggles add intrigue

Lindblad's latest outing did little to ease the pressure. After being squeezed at the opening corner in Singapore, the Briton dropped from 10th to 15th and endured a difficult afternoon that left him questioning both his start and his recent performances.

“I need to review the procedure,” he said of the opening lap.

“I don’t know if I messed it up or what but yeah, the start was shocking. Obviously I got swarmed into Turn 1 and then I had to brake because it all sort of pinched up.

“I think three of us would’ve been out so obviously I lost quite a few positions. I kind of knew at that point it was going to be a pretty long one.

“Unfortunately we had quite a few issues that I was trying to nurse. I got driven past a few times on the straights so it’s not been an easy day.

“There are a lot of things also on my side that I’ve been struggling with a bit, so I just need to understand with the team what’s been going on, why it’s been a bit more difficult these past few weekends, and just try and have a good reset before Austin.

“I don’t think I’ve been quite at my full form these past few weeks.

“I think yesterday was positive in Qualifying. It’s been a difficult week and I was able to put it on the line over one lap. Maybe the results have been good in this triple header but I wouldn't really say it’s been particularly great from my own performance point of view.”

Lawson cannot control the timing of Racing Bulls' decision, but he can keep making his case on track. Singapore offered a persuasive example of what he can deliver when things come together.

With the verdict approaching, maintaining that momentum could prove invaluable.
