Reina Liu from Cary, North Carolina has announced her commitment to continue her academic and athletic careers at Stanford beginning in fall 2028. Liu is the #2 ranked recruit in the girls high school class of 2028.
“I am so incredibly excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Stanford University!!
First, I am beyond grateful for my family and their unwavering support as well as my friends and teammates who have always been there to encourage me and cheer me on throughout my entire journey.
Also, a special thank you to all of my coaches, especially Coach Bruce, Coach Matt, Coach Blake, Coach JP, Coach Rob, and Coach Brad, for always pushing me and helping me become the person I am today. None of this would have been possible without them!

Liu represents Canada at the international level and finished her summer at Junior Pan Pacs. There she was highlighted by a 11th place finish in the 200 back as she swam a lifetime best 2:11.32. She also was 12th in the 100 back with a 1:00.78 and swam a lifetime best 1:00.46 in prelims.
She swims for TAC Titans out of Cary, North Carolina and is a junior at Raleigh Charter High School. Last December, Liu swam to 2nd place finishes in both backstroke events at Winter Juniors-East, swimming lifetime bests in both events as she touched in a 51.85 100 back and a 1:52.17 200 back.

100 back: 51.00 (best in class) 200 back: 1:52.17 200 IM: 1:55.86 200 fly: 1:55.82 100 fly: 52.00 200 free: 1:44.49 (best in class) 100 free: 48.16 50 free: 21.93The Stanford women finished 2nd at the 2026 ACC Championships and went on to finish 2nd at the 2026 NCAA Championships. Based on her best times, Liu is a huge addition for the backstroke group as she would have been the fastest 100 backstroker on the team this past season, ahead of Alana Berlin‘s 51.40. Liu’s lifetime best is already below the NCAA cutline that sat at a 51.54 in the 100 back and a 1:53.72 in the 200 back this past season.
Liu’s commitment is on the earlier end for Stanford who in the past has waited for the Admission Office to do a full academic pre-read of the recruit’s transcripts. In more recent years, Stanford verbal commitments have been coming earlier and earlier.
