Star Wars and Marvel fans have spent decades debating dream crossovers, and now they’re getting the chance to create one themselves.
The LEGO Group announced at New York Comic Con on Oct. 11 that it is launching a first-of-its-kind LEGO Ideas challenge inviting fans to mash up the Star Wars and Marvel universes in LEGO form.
It marks the first time fans have been able to combine the two franchises in a LEGO Ideas challenge, with builders encouraged to reimagine characters, vehicles and scenes from both worlds together.
But this isn’t just an exercise in imagining what might happen if Darth Vader wandered into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Fan submissions will be put to a vote, and favorite designs will ultimately be selected to become official LEGO products.
“This challenge is a milestone for LEGO Ideas and our fan community,” Fede Begher, senior vice president and head of product group at the LEGO Group, said in a statement. “For the first time ever, fans can build with both Marvel and Star Wars in a single LEGO Ideas challenge, unlocking entirely new possibilities for creativity and storytelling.”
The challenge was announced during a New York Comic Con panel featuring actor, director and Marvel Comics writer Kevin Smith.
Fans who want to participate can choose from three different categories: vehicles, characters or scenes. From there, they can create their own mash-up using LEGO elements and submit the finished design through the LEGO Ideas platform.
The timing isn’t accidental. The challenge is part of the celebration surrounding the upcoming 50th anniversary of the Star Wars franchise in 2027.
It also ties into Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles, the comic series unveiled over the summer that will launch in January 2027. The project is billed as the first-ever crossover between the Star Wars and Marvel Comics universes.
The LEGO challenge is open beginning Oct. 11. Fans can review the complete rules and submit their creations through the LEGO Ideas website.
Voting on eligible submissions is scheduled to begin Dec. 15, 2026, while the Grand Prize selections will be announced in 2027.
