ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Seneca Park Zoo has announced the arrival of two new female African penguins.
The penguins’ names are Bay and Coriander. The penguins were born in 2019 at the Maryland Zoo and were recently moved to Seneca Park Zoo in August. Bay has a black and yellow band on her wing, while Coriander wears a brown band on her right wing.
“Bay and Coriander will bring new energy to our colony, joining the 26 African penguins and their mates at Seneca Park Zoo,” said County Executive Adam Bello. “Their arrival reflects our ongoing commitment toconservation, both locally and globally, and to securing a future for species around the world. We’re proud to have strong leaders like Zoo Director Bob Lee and General Curator David Hamilton, along with a dedicated staff who work every day to protect and care for these animals. Their efforts inspire meaningful connections with our guests and help make conservation a goal for everyone who visits the zoo.”
The penguins spent two weeks in quarantine and have since been introduced to male penguins Tonka and Kaden. The four penguins were moved to their habitats on Thursday.
The zoo says Bay and Coriander, along with the 26 other penguins in the colony, can be seen seven days a week.
