A sloth was captured on video riding in the backseat of a minivan traveling down a west suburban highway earlier this week.
The animal that is typically found in tropical rainforests was spotted speeding down Kirk Road, a county highway in Batavia, by Angellena Kalantzis, who shared a video of the encounter in a TikTok post on Tuesday that has since gone viral.
Kalantzis said she saw the sloth while on her way to the gym.
“We were next to it for about 10 minutes trying to figure out if it was real or not,” Kalantzis said in a message sent to NBC Chicago.
The sloth can be seen hanging upside down in the backseat of a white minivan in the video, wiggling from side-to-side while being chauffeured around.
“How does one have a pet sloth in Illinois?” Kalantzis said in the post caption.
It was not immediately clear who the sloth belongs to or where it was headed.
